On 05-26-2025 at approximately 2217 hours I was on scene at Ross located at 909 N Landing Way in the City of
Renton, County of King, State of Washington for a shoplift. I was parked on the south side of the location
where the suspect was apprehended.
Officer Kauppila was parked in the same lot on the south side of the above listed location and was getting
ready to return store items recovered from the suspect. He was unable to drive forward due to multiple patrol
cars blocking the exit. He proceeded to reverse to go out of the opposite exit. While doing so, his back up
camera was inoperative. A crash post was positioned directly behind him and was not observed in his sideview
mirrors. He reversed his patrol vehicle, unit#1, into the crash post in the lot striking it and causing a minor
dent to his rear bumper.There were several scuff marks on the crash post itself, so I was unable to determine
which ones, if any, were from Officer Kauppila's vehicle.
Photos were taken of the crash post and unit#1 and uploaded to Evidence.com.
