NARRATIVE
24-5356
At about 1823 hours on 05/20/2024 1 was dispatched to a blocking collision at, 8876 S 180TH ST, in
the city of Renton, King County, Washington. Dispatch advised me that this was a multivehicle
accident, and they were blocking S 180TH, with no injuries.
Unit 1: Silver 2009 Honda Accord LIC/BFR7419 VIN/1 HGCP26469AO91153
Driver: Lanh T Nguyen (DOB 01/01/1991) via WADL
Unit 2: Black 2021 Volvo XC60 (FL)LIC/AY78FT VIN/YV4102DK1 M1700523
Driver: Hillary L Miller (DOB 03/24/1977) via FLDL
Upon my arrival I contacted both involved drivers. Both drivers advised there was no injuries, and no
one needed further medical assistance. Unit 1 had pulled their vehicle off the roadway and into a
nearby gas station. Unit 2's vehicle was immobile and blocking west bound traffic on S 180TH.
The following is a summary of what unit 1 told me happened. Unit 1 advised she was trying to exit the
shopping complex in the 8000 block of S 180TH and take a left to go east bound. Unit one pulled out
into the roadway and struck unit 2 on the passenger side as unit 2 was traveling west bound on S
180TH. Unit 1 advised they did not see the oncoming traffic.
The following is a summary of what unit 2 told me happened. Unit 2 advised she was traveling west
bound on S 180TH in the right most, #2 of 2 lane. Unit 2 advised she had just passed the intersection
of 180TH/ East Valley RD and she saw unit 1 stopped, waiting to turn left out onto S 180th. Unit 2
advised she thought there was no way someone would try and pull out in front of her, so she
continued to travel as normal. To her surprise, unit 1 pulled out in front of her and hit her on the
passenger side. Unit 2 said she did not have time to react and get out of the way.
Based on my initial investigation, I believe the proximate cause for the accident was unit 1's
inattention by not paying attention to oncoming traffic. Both vehicles had independent tows called for
them and both were towed. Both drivers were given a business card with case number attached.
Photographs of the vehicles were taken and uploaded via axon capture.
This incident was captured by my body worn video camera. This report is a summary of the events
that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events. Statements have been summarized and
paraphrased.
This concludes my involvement with this case.
