Peterson with a two-vehicle, non-injury collision that occurred in the intersection of S Grady Way and Williams Avenue S in the city of Renton, King County,Washington. Officer Peterson was with both vehicles and their drivers in the parking lot of Chevron, 800 S Grady Way, who had moved their vehicles off the roadway. I arrived at approximately 1601 hours. UNIT 1: HYUNDAI SONATA I observed a blue Hyundai Sonata (WA/CFX5173, Unit 1) parked in the parking lot of 800 S Grady Way. Unit 1 had been moved from its point of rest. Unit 1 had minor damage to the front passenger bumper. UNIT 2: NISSAN KICKS I observed a light/olive green Nissan Kicks(WA/CBL7264, Unit 2) parked in the parking lot of 800 S Grady Way next to Unit 1. Unit 2 had been moved from its point of rest. Unit 2 had minor damage to the front passenger bumper and the driver door. DRIVER 1: MERINO CARBONELL, LAZARO I contacted Lazaro Merino Carbonell(DOB:02/24/1979)standing near Unit 1. Lazaro was not injured from the collision. I identified Lazaro by his Washington Identification Card. Lazaro did not have a valid driver license. I established Lazaro as the driver of Unit 1 by his admission. DRIVER 2: NABORS,CRYSTAL U. I contacted Crystal U. Nabors (DOB: 02/25/1988)standing near Unit 2. I identified Nabors by her valid Washington Driver License. I established Nabors as the driver of Unit 2 by her admission. STATEMENT: NABORS,CRYSTAL U. I spoke with Nabors about the collision.The following is a summary of our conversation: Nabors drove Unit 2 north through the parking lot of Home Depot, 901 S Grady Way,to enter S Grady Way via the private driveway that leads to Williams Avenue S.The traffic signal was a solid,green left-turn arrow. Nabors intended to turn left(west) onto S Grady Way from the private driveway. As Nabors was in the intersection making her turn, Nabors saw Unit 1 driving south on Williams Avenue S toward S Grady Way. Unit 1 entered the intersection without stopping and appeared to be turning right (west)onto S Grady Way. Unit 1's front driver bumper collided with Unit 2's front passenger bumper. Unit 2's path was diverted south from the force of the collision. Unit 2 subsequently collided with a barrier along the south side of S Grady Way. This concluded my conversation with Nabors. STATEMENT: MERINO CARBON.ELL. LAZARO Officer Peterson spoke with Lazaro via a Spanish Language Line interpreter prior to my arrival. Officer Peterson told me Lazaro stated he turned right(west)onto S Grady Way from Williams Avenue S against a solid, red traffic signal. Lazaro did not stop before entering the intersection. PROXIMATE CAUSE The proximate cause of the collision was determined by statements from Lazaro and Nabors. Lazaro's actions were the proximate cause of the collision, specifically Lazaro's violation of RCW 46.61.050(1), Obedience to and required traffic control devices,which states: This incident occurred in the sCity of Renton,King County,Washington State. !declare underpenalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the foregoing is true and correct. Officer: Gorajewski, Raymond #R12399 Reviewed By: Gorajewski, Raymond W Date/Time: 05/31 /2025 12:54 Collision 2025-00004718 Page 3 OF 5 Case Number 2025-00004718 Officer Narrative-Continued The driver of any vehicle, a person operating a bicycle, and every pedestrian shall obey, and the operation of every personal delivery device shall follow,the instructions of any official traffic control device applicable thereto, and as specified in this chapter, placed in accordance with the provisions of this chapter, unless otherwise directed by a traffic or police officer, subject to the exception granted the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle in this chapter. Lazaro encountered a steady red indication, RCW 46.61.055(3)(a),which required him to stop at the clearly marked stop line.There was a clearly marked stop line at this intersection. CITATION I issued Lazaro a citation for RCW 46.61.050(1),failure to obey a traffic control device, RCW 46.30.020, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and RCW 46.20.015, operating a motor vehicle without a valid operator license. DISPOSITION Both parties took photographs of the involved vehicles and exchanged information. This concluded my involvement in this case.
