EGO1311 CASE# 25-5203 OF COLLISION 06/14/25 22:06 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE Unless otherwise noted, the following occurred within the city limits of Renton, county of King, state of Washington. On 06/14/2025, 1 was working as a uniformed police officer for the city of Renton. At approximately 2207 hours, I was dispatched to an unknown if injury accident at NE 3rd St and Sunset Blvd N. Portions of my involvement in the incident were captured on my department-issued bodycam. While enroute, dispatch relayed that a witness observed two vehicles get in a collision at the intersection. The first was a teal sedan, while the latter was a dark colored sedan. The witness added that they believed the dark colored sedan proceeded through a red light, causing the collision. When I arrived on scene, I located the teal sedan (unit 2), WA lic/BXU6487, just off to the east side of the roadway, north of the intersection. Unit 1 was identified as WA lic/CSP1864, and it was blocking lanes 2 and 3 of westbound NE 3rd St at the intersection. The driver, and sole occupant, of unit 1 informed me of the following: He very quickly admitted that the collision was his fault. He was driving in lane 5 of 5 going south on Sunset Blvd N. As he approached the intersection, he thought he could make it through, even though the light was yellow. Alas, the light very quickly turned red, and before he could make it through the intersection, he was struck by unit 2, which had a green light to proceed. I briefly spoke with the driver, and sole occupant, of unit 2. He advised me of the following: He was waiting in lane 1 of 4 on Sunset Blvd N, just south of the dispatched intersection, at the stoplight, which was red. Once the light turned green, he continued north through the intersection, when he was suddenly struck by unit 1. He advised that he felt pain in his back as a result of the collision. Renton Regional Fire Authority arrived on scene to evaluate the driver of unit 2, who was ultimately sent to the hospital. While I was speaking with the driver of unit 2, 1 overheard the driver of unit 1 advise someone else on scene that he really needed to go to the bathroom. Thinking nothing of it, I continued my conversation. I eventually returned to my patrol vehicle to run the provided OLN's for both drivers. Once I did, I spoke with a friend of unit 2's, who said that the driver of unit 1 went to Burger King, 311 Sunset Blvd N. More time passed, and I learned that the driver of unit 1 was under an ignition interlock requirement, which his vehicle was not equipped with. He was also a convicted felon with a prior for assault in the third degree. At this point, I requested additional units to area check for the driver, under the notion of probable cause for his arrest for violation of RCW 46.20.740 -driving without ignition interlock device. Further, I later found probable cause for violation of RCW 46.52.020-hit and run (attended), as the driver never returned to the scene, and was never located by responding officers. The driver of unit 1 never furnished any insurance information to myself, nor the driver of unit 2. Banker's tow arrived on scene, and without the driver in sight, I authored a tow/impound form for unit 1, authorizing it to be towed from the scene. I captured photos of the exterior of the vehicle. At this point, I still had possession of the now suspect's driver's license, so I booked it into evidence. Additionally, I chose to add a citation for the driver of unit 1 for violation of RCW 46.30.020-operating motor vehicle without liability insurance. As previously mentioned, the driver did not provide me insurance information before leaving the scene. I was unable to speak to the driver of unit 2 at length because he was transported to the hospital. I do not know whether he wishes to pursue charges or not. Nothing further. PAGE 3 OF 4 REPORT NO.!
