NEIGHBORHOOD PROGRAM & WHAT’S COMING a) Presentation Neighborhood Program 2025 Committee of the Whole, June 23, 2025 Jennifer Spencer, Recreation & Human Services Director Rhemy King, Neighborhood Program Coordinator AG E N D A I T E M # 1 . a ) Who is the Neighborhood Program Rooted in the belief that informed and connected residents help build safer, stronger communities; the City of Renton's Neighborhood Program serves as a vital form of civic engagement. By partnering with Recognized Neighborhood groups, the program fosters meaningful local experiences that bring neighbors together, promote a shared sense of place, and empower residents to actively shape their environment. This engagement not only strengthens community bonds but also supports the city’s broader goals of equity, safety, and long-term resilience. 47 Active Neighborhoods AG E N D A I T E M # 1 . a ) What have we been up to? •Lifting up resident voices coordinating meeting space and speakers. •Support grassroots leadership by funding community projects such as flower planting, teen programs, and game nights. •Strengthen connections between neighbors hosting Neighbor to Neighbor forums, public artwork (hydrants), and Chalk-Your -Walk •Foster civic participation facilitate civic conversations that encourage connection with local government, including our Teen Civic Academy that reignited the Renton Youth Council. •Create pathways for collaboration with City departments through litter pick-ups, CERT training, and BBQs. Connecting Communities, Empowering Residents AG E N D A I T E M # 1 . a ) Where will we be in 2025 •Signature Experiences like neighborhood BBQs, cooking demonstrations and movie nights. •Neighborhood-led events from block parties and clean-up days, to outdoor summer movies and neighborhood meetings. •City-wide favorites like the Downtown Farmer’s Market, Renton River Days, and National Night Out. •Partners events supporting Back-to-school, new park plans, and other collaborations with local organizations.
