Project Description:
This project will install an intake line for water samples, as part of a scientific study to measure
bacteria concentrations in the water at Gene Coulon Beach. Water samples will be pumped through
this intake line from the swimming area to the lifeguard/restroom building. In that building, an
autoanalyzer will measure bacteria concentr ations frequently throughout the day.
This project will bury a conduit (approximately 3” diameter) that will house the water intake line.
The conduit will be buried under the sandy area of the swimming beach, and will tunnel under the
sidewalk next to the lifeguard/restroom building. To bury the conduit under the beach, this project
will dig a trench approximately 6” wide, 12-18” deep, and 90 feet long. The trench will be re-filled
with the original beach sand.
Site information:
• Site: Gene Coulon Memorial Park swimming beach
• Special site features: Lake Washington shoreline
• Soil type and drainage: Beach sand with a shallow water table.
• Total estimated construction value: Under $5,000
• Fill/excavation material: No material will be added or removed from the site. The trench to
bury the conduit will be re-filled with the original beach sand.
• Trees: No trees will be removed.
• Shoreline information:
• Name of adjacent water area: Lake Washington
• Nature of existing shoreline:
▪ Type of shoreline: Lake
▪ Type of beach: Constructed sandy swimming beach, in Gene Coulon Park
▪ Type of material: Sand
▪ The extent and type of any bulkheading: The swimming area has existing
wooden bulkheading along the side.
• The number and location of structures and/or residential units (existing and
potential) which might have views obstructed as a result of the proposed project:
None
