-An electronic copy of the manufacturers' cut sheets for all new fire alarm equipment is required at the time of plans submittal.
-An electronic copy of the battery calculations is required at the time of plans submittal.

I certify that the information furnished by me on this application is true and correct and that the applicable requirements of the City of
Renton will be met. I understand that this application is valid for six months from the application date. If a permit is not issued during
this time period, this application will become void. This application does not constitute a permit to work. Work is not to commence
until the permit is posted on premises where work is to be performed. Certification is hereby rendered that no work will be done
except as described, and that all work will conform to the applicable codes.

Guidelines for
Fire Alarm System Installations
Separate plans and permits are required for installation of fire alarm systems as required by the International Fire Code and City of
Renton Ordinance.
All required documents must be scanned and saved in PDF format͘ ŽŶƚĂĐƚƚŚĞŝƚLJŽĨZĞŶƚŽŶWĞƌŵŝƚĞŶƚĞƌĂƚ

General Requirements: No hard copy paper documents will be accepted. The completed application and all information related
to the installation shall be included with the plan review package; incomplete packages will not be accepted. A plan review fee is to
be paid at the time the package is submitted, based on the value of the work to be performed. All contractors doing work in the city
of Renton are required to have a Renton Business License. All information and evidence of required licenses are to be provided
with the application for permit. If the installation is in conjunction with a building permit, the Building Permit number shall be
provided at the time of submittal. The street address assigned by the City of Renton must be included on the application.
All submittals are subject to the following requirements and conditions:
ϭ͘Plans submitted must include:
Ă͘Manufacturers' cut sheets for all new equipment.
ď͘Battery calculations.
Đ͘Complete floor plan of the building/area where work is being conducted indicating all partitions, stairways and
outside exit doorways.
Ě͘Ceiling heights in rooms of installation and general description of ceiling/roof detection throughout the
building.
Ğ͘Confirmation that all systems are full addressable and provide full detection throughout the building, per City
of Renton Ordinance.
Ĩ͘Confirmation that, for all buildings constructed under the International Building Code exceeding 3,000 square
feet, there is an approved fire alarm system, per City of Renton Ordinance.
2͘All new work on fire alarm systems shall comply with the Washington State Americans with Disabilities Act,
WAC 51-30-1106.15.
ϯ͘Per City of Renton Ordinance, a minimum of 75 decibels required in sleeping areas and a minimum of 60 decibels or 15
decibels above ambient shall be obtained in all other areas. Tests with an audibility meter will be conducted prior to
occupancy in order to ensure compliance.
4͘All systems shall be monitored by a UL listed central station. If not included in this submittal, separate plans
and permits will be required for central station transmittal equipment.
ϱ͘Fire alarm systems require both a fire alarm permit and a Building Department electrical permit. The electrical permit
number is required prior to issuance of the fire alarm permit.
All field tests and/or inspections must be scheduled by calling 425-276-9580 a minimum of 24 hours prior to inspection.
Inspection appointments will be subject to the availability of personnel. The contractor must be present at the time of all field
tests.
