Circuitry variations are avaiiabie in single, daLke and ^,rip;e pole with varied voltage and amperage ratings. Units may be keyed Into any BEST system. The BEST interchanoea* core offers versatility and adapiaNity for new and emstrig electric.0 controls, panels, machines, etc. — Features Double D lock cylnder prevents slipping and fuming Screw terminals on all switch locks (except the 1 W7A1) provides ease of installatior. AN switches are UL recognized or listed Note on fvncfiotr jty. Switch lock keys can only be mmoved in the 12 o'clock poai°ion. How to select a switch lock 1. Determine the eiectrical requirements for the device being controlled: A Voltage (for example, 115 VAC or 24 VDC) B Current or horsepower (for example, 6 amps o V2 horsepower) C. Type of load Resistive (for example, heater elements) kductive (far example, moto(s, lart}e hansforrn:;rs) Lamp (for example, incandescent ugnts) 2 Determine tha switch configuration (poles and throws) and key removal condition: A. Poles To determine the number of poles, Md flow many wires from the power source neeo to be switched on and rrf by the switch lock. B. Throws To detarnwne the number of throws, fine how many wires to the device the switch needs to coMrol. For example, if a switch needs two different "on" conditions (low and nigh speed), two throws are needed. Or if the devlCB is sirmply anon-0T type (only one wire), you need one ttwOw Note: A switch throw may be left unwired and used as an "ofP' conddM. C. Key removal To determine the key removal condition, ask the question,'When the key is removed, should the 5w4cn be 'off. or coud the snitch be edher "on" or `off' 7' Although the key can oniy be removed in the 12 o'clock postion, the svritch itself may be left in two or three positions. Check each switcn lock for key removal switch positions. 3. Use the Information collected and find the switch lock that test meets the requirements. Refer to the following catafog pages for a description of each switch ;ock It envifonmental conditions make it necessary that the swdch tick be housed m an electrical box, see the Optional boxes (above) for the box that best suits the switch lock and your application. In most models, a float encircling a stationary stem is equipped Pr9M:drER' with powerful, permanent magnets. As MAGNET the float rises or lowers with liquid level, the magnetic field generated from within :Lest the float actuates a hermetically sealed, a -- magnetic reed switch mounted within the BERMETICALLy SEALED MAG%F:,' stem. The stem is made of non-magnetic ;,ZED SOT;r: metals or rugged, engineered plastics. When mounted vertically, this basic design provides a consistent accuracy of ±1/8 inch. The basic principle, however, is the same: as a direct result of rising or falling liquid, a magnetic field is moved into the proximity of a reed switch, causing its actuation. u -- Reed Switch Reliability The durable construction of these reed switch designs ensures long, trouble -free service. Because the effects of shock, wear and vibration are minimized, these hermetically sealed switches provide precise repeatability with no more than 1 % deviation. General Safety Information Il WAR1Nd Disconnect all power before installing or servicing this product. If the power disconnect is out of view, lock it in the open position and tag it to prevent unexpected restarting of power. Failure to do so could result in fatal electric shock. 1. Special attention must be given to any grounding information on this product and to other equip- ment associated with its installation and use. To ensure a proper ground, the grounding means must be checked by a qualified electrician. 2. Be certain that the electrical ratings of the thermo- stat conform to the power source and the load(s) being controlled. Loads that exceed the rating of the thermostat should be handled with a suitable rated relay or motor starter. ',wA Do not depend upon the thermostat __ _, as the sole means of disconnecting power when installing or servicing the product it is controlling. Always disconnect power at the main circuit breaker as described above. Failure to do so could result in fatal electric shock. 3. This thermostat is intended ONLY for permanent installation in accordance with the United States National Electrical Code (NEC), all applicable local codes and ordinances, and all sections of this manual. All wiring should be done by a qualified electrician, using copper wire only a These thermostats are intended _ for general heating or ventilating ONLY. They must NOT be used in potentially dangerous locations such as flammable, explosive, chemical laden areas or in wet atmospheres. ;,AFROM These thermostats are designed for use as operating controls only. Where an operating control failure would result in personal injury andlor loss of property, it is the responsibility of the installer to add devices (safety, limit controls) or systems (supervisory alarm systems) that protect against, or warn of control failure. In cases where personal injury or I __ property damage may result from malfunction of the thermostat, a backup system must be used. Where critical or high value products are main- tained, an approved temperature limit should be wired in series with this thermostat. In less critical applica- tions, a second thermostat with alarm contacts may be used for redundancy. Installation LOCATION Mount this product 5 to 6 feet above the floor so it will be exposed to the average temperature of the controlled space. Do not mount control where it could be affected by unusual heat or cold such as in sun- light or beside equipment. Avoid locations near a door, window or other opening. Do not mount on an outside wall. When the thermostat is mounted with col pointed down, it is protected from falling objects, dirt, and debris. MOUNTING On rough surfaces use the top mounting holes only. When mounting this control on uneven surfaces, when all four mounting screws are tightened, the housing may deform enough to affect the thermostat calibration and operation. r-A Do not dent or deform the sensor :_ _. -_.__ _-.: coil of this control. A dent or deformation will change the calibration and cause the control to cycle at a temperature lower than the knob setting. CHECKOUT PROCEDURE Before leaving the installation, a complete operating cycle should be observed to ensure that all components are functioning properly. Check for correct operation in the following sequence: 1. Models 1UHH1, 1UHH2 and 1UHH4-Ventilating or Cooling System: Turn knob clockwise to a setting above ambient temperature. Fan or Cooling System should be off. When knob is turned counterclockwise (to lower temperature setting), the fan or cooling system should turn on approxi- mately at the knob setting. 2. Models 1UHH1 and 1UHH2 - Heating System: Turn knob clockwise above the ambient temperature; the heating unit should be on. When knob is turned counterclockwise above the ambient temperature; the heating unit should be on. When knob is turned counterclockwise (to lower temperature setting), the heating unit should turn off approximately at the knob setting. 3. Model 1 UHH3 - If connection is similar to Figure 6, fan should start at approximately ambient temperature and should change to high speed, as the knob is turned counterclockwise to a lower temperature setting. If wiring is similar to Figure 7, the damper should open as the knob is turned counterclockwise (to lower temperature setting). The devices should act in reverse sequence when the knob is turned clockwise. B Figure 10 - Typical Wiring for Model 1UHH3 for Two -stage Heating Troubleshooting Chart This product is set at the factory for the maximum temperature scale setting. The maximum temperature setting can be reduced by removing the cover, slightly loosening the adjusting screw adjacent to the adjust knob, and moving the adjusting screw along the slot to the desired maximum temperture. Once this is done, re -tighten the adjusting screw and replace the cover. Operation Figure 10 illustrates the operation of Model 1 UHH3. On a temperature increase to the knob setting, the circuit between R and Y of the low stage switch (RYL; closes. Simultaneously the circuit between R and B (RBL) opens. On a further increase in temperature the high stage switch operates and closes (RYH) while simultaneously opening (RBH). The reverse sequencing takes place with a decrease in temperature.
