As part of the utilities improvements required for the Ingram short -plat, and according the civil
plans (W-3248) approved by the City of Renton for the project, the owner/developer must install
a new fire hydrant within 300 feet of any new residential dwelling on the 2 new lots of the short -
plat, and must also install a 4-inch water line within the private driveway to provide domestic
water service to each lot. The new 4-inch line will be connected to an existing 6-inch water line
in Shattuck Ave S., located along the east margin of Shattuck Ave S. The maximum flowrate
from the existing 6-inch line is limited to 1,000 gallons per minute (gpm).
The City of Renton Water Engineering Department is planning on installing a new 8-inch water
line in Shattuck Avenue S. to replace the existing 6-inch line. The new 8-inch line is scheduled to
be installed and be operational by October 30, 2005. The flowrate from the new 8-inch will be
limited to 1,250 gpm.
According to Renton Fire Prevention Department, the fire flow demand for each of the 2
proposed single-family dwelling(s) is about 2,000 gpm which is more than the existing 6-inch
water or the new 8-inch can deliver. Therefore, the applicant shall request Renton Fire
Prevention Department to allow the use of a residential fire sprinkler system to reduce the fire
flow demand of the new dwelling(s).
The fire sprinkler system must be designed a certified fire sprinkler designer and the domestic
water meter shall be sized accordingly to provide water for domestic use and for fire sprinkler
need. The minimum meter size and service line to the meter shall be one -inch.
Subject to all applicable water system development charges and water meter installation fees.
