HomeMy WebLinkAboutWTR2703551_9\TO'1'I(13' OF C.ONSTRUC.TION BENSON ROAD WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT Beginning in June 2011, the City of Renton will begin construction of 1500 feet of a water main in Main Avenue S and Benson Road S, from S 4th Street to City Hall. The new 16-inch diameter water main will replace the last remaining portion of the existing aging pipe. In 2010, WSDOT replaced a portion of the old water line as part of the 1-405 Stage 2 widening project to accommodate the construction of the new freeway off -ramp and the realignment of Benson Road S. Southbound Lane Closures and Detour Routes (Starting the week of June 27): In order to construct the water main in Main Avenue South, both southbound lanes of Main Avenue South will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Southbound traffic will be detoured through Williams Avenue South during these working hours and both southbound lanes will be re -opened to traffic at 3:30 p.m. The contractor will be potholing and doing survey work prior to June 27. During this time, there may be intermittent lane closures. Northbound Lane Closures and Detour Routes: For the construction of the portions of the water line across Main Avenue South at South 4th Street and across South Grady Way to Benson Road South, the northbound lanes of Main Avenue South will be closed and northbound traffic will be detoured through Wells Avenue South. All lanes will be re -opened to traffic at 3:30 p.m. The northbound closure is expected to last one day during construction. During the construction of the project, access to neighborhoods, including emergency access, mail delivery, and garbage collection will be maintained at all times.
