Upon arrival, I contacted the involved parties and determined that both vehicles sustained heavy damage to the front bumper. While on scene, I collected the involved parties driving documents and their independent recollection of events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit#1, identified as Edil Husein, said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling eastbound on SW 5th PI and approaching the intersection of Hardie Ave SW before the collision occurred. Edil intended to cross Hardie Ave SW to enter the rear parking lot of Fred Meyer. Edil stated she was stopped at the intersection yielding for traffic when she remembered seeing Unit # 2 traveling southbound on Hardie Ave SW. She believed she had enough time to cross the roadway, so she proceeded forward. While moving ahead, both vehicles collided in the southbound lane of Hardie Ave SW. Unit#1 sustained severe damage to the front of the vehicle, making it undrivable. While speaking with Edil, she stated she felt pain to the left of her body. The driver of Unit#2, identified as Huong Tran, said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling southbound on Hardie Ave SW and approaching the intersection of SW 5th St. While she intended to continue southbound, Unit#1 crossed in front of her. Huong stated she was unable to stop in time, so both vehicles collided in the roadway. Unit#2 sustained severe damage to the front bumper. Huong complained of pain to her upper body. Renton Fire arrived on scene and cleared the two drivers. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Gene Meyers towing and both driver received an exchange of information. An independent witness identified as Mario Johnson stated Unit#1 failed to yield and crossed in front of Unit#2. Based on the above statements, 1 believe that the driver of Unit#1 (Edil Husein) is the proximate cause of the collision as Edil is required to comply with RCW 46.61.190(3) which states that every driver of a vehicle approaching the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic of the intersecting roadway must stop before entering the roadway, and after having stopped shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection or junction of roadways. Unit#2 was already underway in the roadway and had right of way. I cited Edil via mail.
