EG16941 CASE# 25-6665 OFCOLLIION 08/01/2517:35 OF COLLISION NARRATIVE 25-6665 On 08/01/2025 at approximately 1739 hours, I was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision with reports of injury at the intersection of SE Carr Road and 105th PI SE, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Upon arrival, I contacted the involved parties and determined that the driver of Unit#2 was complaining of head pain. The Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) had simultaneously arrived on scene and treated the involved driver. RRFA released all involved parties at the scene. While on scene, I collected the involved parties driving documents and their independent recollection of events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit#1 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling eastbound in about the 10500 block of SE Carr Road just west of the intersection of 105th PL SE. The driver of Unit#1 stated she was traveling directly behind Unit#2 and saw as Unit#2 was slowing or stopped at the intersection. The driver of Unit#1 stated that the driver of Unit#2 stated that she attempted to stop her vehicle in time but was unable to and subsequently collided with the rear of Unit#2 causing minor damage to the front of Unit#1. The driver of Unit#2 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and also traveling eastbound in about the 10500 block of SE Carr Road just west of the intersection of 105th PL SE. The driver of Unit#2 stated he was stopped for queued traffic at the upcoming controlled intersection. While Unit #2 was stopped, Unit#1 collided with the rear of Unit#2 causing moderate damage to the rear of Unit #2, to include the rear bumper and hitch ball. Martinez was not paying attention to traffic in front of her. Martinez violated Renton Municipal Code (RMC) 10-12-25-Inattentive Driving which is defined as any person to drive a motor vehicle on any public highway, street, alley, or road in an inattentive manner in the City of Renton. "Inattentive manner" in this section means a lack of: 1) attentiveness required to safely operate the vehicle under the prevailing conditions, including, but not limited to, the nature and condition of the roadway, the weather conditions, the presence of pedestrians, the presence of other traffic, or by the driver focusing or directing the driver's attention to something other than driving the motor vehicle; or 2) attentiveness that would permit the driver of a motor vehicle to observe anything resting on, or traveling on, or entering the roadway in time to take appropriate action as circumstances require. (Ord. 4462, 7-25-94, eff. retroactive to 7-1-94; Ord. 5635, 11-14-11). Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Martinez) is the proximate cause for the collision due to inattention causing a collision. Martinez should have been paying closer attention to the movement of traffic in front of her. I issued Martinez a written warning for Inattention. Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 were able to be driven away without further incident. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. I certify (or declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the foregoing is true and correct. Electronically signed by Officer M.
