EG16956 CASE# 25-6842 OF COLLI ION 08/06/25 15:08 OF COLLISION NARRATIVE 25-6842 At about 1509 hours on 08/06/2025, 1 was dispatched to a motor vehicle into a building, unknown injuries at Safeway, located at 2725 NE Sunset Blvd in the City of Renton, King County, Washington. While enroute, the call updated with the vehicle hitting the building twice, with the driver now outside of the vehicle confused and uninjured. Upon arrival, I observed a gray 2003 Toyota Camry (BSS9218/WA) -UNIT 1 facing the west side of the listed Safeway building parked about 10 feet away from the building. There was extensive front- end damage to the vehicle with the vehicle leaking an unknown fluid. The driver who was the listed registered owner: Jin M. Song (DOB:03/12/1952 -verified by WADOL photo) was standing near the front driver's fender. He said he mixed up the pedals but was okay. Jin provided his valid WADOL, valid insurance information and expired registration, but was valid registration per WADOL return (expires in 2026). Renton FIRE arrived to assess the structural damage to the building. I asked Jin if he wanted to be seen by FIRE as a precaution, he refused multiple times and said he was okay. I did not observe any indications of Jin being under the influence of any intoxicants or substances. Nothing suspicious was observed inside the vehicle. Photos were taken of the scene and uploaded to the case. I asked Jin if he had any medical conditions, I should be aware of, he said no. I asked Jin if he knew where he was, he answered Safeway. He was able to tell me the date and year. From my observations, Jin appeared coherent and understood what had occurred. Jin stated multiple times he got confused and mixed up the pedals. Renton FIRE advised they had a city engineer enroute along with a Safeway building engineer. The severity of the damage of Safeway was unknown. It was not determined the building needed to be evacuated. No injuries were reported from anyone on scene. was contacted by a witness: Daria Sokol (DOB:11/18/1988). She showed me a video recording of the listed vehicle backing up from the front of the store (disabled parking spot) then driving straight into the building, with no observation of the vehicle attempting to turn left to exit the lot. This was the second collision into the building, with the first not being captured on the shown video. I sent Daria an AXON link to upload the video. I spoke with Safeway Director: Dennis R. Johnson (DOB:02/19/1959). He confirmed no injuries. Everyone was just emotionally shook up. I provided him with a business card and case number. He confirmed a Safeway engineer was on their way. I told Dennis, the driver Jin left his phone at home, but I would be calling his son in law to arrange a tow/retrieval of Unit 1. Dennis said no problem. I contacted David McBride-Safeway Asset Protection. He was provided an AXON link to upload any Safeway footage of the incident to the case. I conducted a courtesy transport of Jin to his home at Houser Terrace #206 in Renton. He entered his home and called his son in law: Sung J. Kim (DOB:04/15/1978) #206-883-6762. 1 told Sung of the accident and that Jin was okay. Sung was provided the location of Unit 1 and said he would take care of the retrieval. Sung added that Jin did not have any medical issues and did not take any medications except for vitamins. Sung did say Jin had a stroke years ago, which causes him to lose control of the left side of his body sometimes. I provided Sung with the case number. I told Jin I would leave him a business card on his kitchen table. Based on the obtained information, the proximate cause of the accident appeared to be Jin becoming confused of the pedals and losing control of part of the left side of his body, which contributed to him not being able to turn left to exit the lot and drive towards his listed residence. This concludes my involvement in this case. I declare under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the foregoing is true and correct. Electronically signed by W.
