NARRATIVE
CC 25-7228
On 8/19/2025 at 0735 hours I was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at intersection of SW 7th St
and Hardie Ave SW in the City of Renton, King County, Washington.
Pre-Collision
Driver 2 stated that he was stopped at a red light just before it turned green in the #2 lane of SB
Hardie Ave SW at SW 7th St.
Driver 1 stated that she was proceeding East on SW 7th St approaching Hardie Ave SW in the #1
lane.
Collision
Driver 2 stated that the light turned green and he entered the intersection behind another car that was
in front of him. Driver 2 stated that Unit 1 entered the intersection from the West and the front bumper
of Unit 1 collided with the front passenger side tire of Unit 2, causing significant damage.
Driver 1 stated that she was unable to see the traffic light due to the sun being in her eyes and
entered the intersection of Hardie Ave SW and SW 7th St where the front bumper of Unit 1 collided
with the front passenger side tire of Unit 2.
Due to the fact that Driver 2 stated that he had a green light and was nearly all the way through the
intersection when the collision occurred, it is highly unlikely that Driver 1 would have had a green light
to proceed into the intersection. I stayed at the scene and reviewed the light cycle and whenever the
SB lane of Hardie Ave SW have a green light, all other directions have a red light as the green for SB
traffic allows vehicles to go straight, left, or right. Therefore Driver 1 would not have had a green light
at the time of this collision and would have had a steady red circle.
Injuries
No injuries reported
Vehicle Disposition
Both vehicles were inoperable and towed from the scene
Proximate Cause
I determined that Driver 1 is the proximate cause of this collision because whenever traffic is
controlled by traffic control signals exhibiting different colored lights, or colored lighted arrows,
successively one at a time or in combination, only the colors green, red and yellow shall be used,
except for special pedestrian signals carrying a word or legend, and said lights shall indicate and
apply to drivers of vehicles, pedestrians, and personal delivery devices, as follows:
Vehicle operators facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but
if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before
entering the intersection control area and shall remain standing until an indication to proceed is
shown.
Driver 1 was cited per RCW 46.61.055.
