DLState DLExp Address Primary Phone&Type AdditionalContact Number&Type Additional Contact Number&Type Race Sex DOB- Height Weight Even Hair Collision 2025-00007550 Paqe 2 OF 6 Case Number 2025-00007550 Officer Narrative Narrative ASSIGNMENT/ARRIVAL On 08/29/2025 at approximately 1502 hours, I happened upon a two vehicle collision in the intersection of S 3rd Street and Main Avenue S in the city of Renton, King County,Washington. UNIT 1: BMW X5 Upon arrival I observed a white BMX X5 (WA/CRB5248, Unit 1) stopped facing east in the eastbound number one (closest to south curb) lane of S 3rd Street east of Main Avenue S. Unit 1 had non-disabling, minor damage to the rear-driver door and leading edge of the rear-driver fender. Unit 1 had been moved from its point of rest prior to my arrival. UNIT 2: FORD FOCUS I observed a black Ford Focus (WA/BSE5173, Unit 2) stopped facing south in the intersection of S 3rd Street and Main Avenue S in the southbound number-two Lane prolongation of Main Avenue S. Unit 2 had moderate, disabling front end damage. Unit 2 had not been moved from its point of rest prior to my arrival. WITNESS: MORA HERNANDEZ, DANIEL I was immediately approached by a witness, Daniel Mora Hernandez(DOB: 05/27/1991),who told me the following: Daniel was driving east on S 3rd Street toward Main Avenue S behind Unit 1. The traffic signal at S 3rd Street and Main Avenue S turned from a solid-yellow circular signal to a solid-red circular signal, indicating for S 3rd Street traffic to stop. Unit 1 disobeyed the solid-red circular signal and drove into the intersection, colliding with Unit 2. DRIVER 1: CORTES ROSA M I contacted Rosa M. Cortes (DOB: 12/01/1985) in the driver seat of Unit 1. 1 positively identified Cortes by her valid Washington Driver License and established her as the driver of Unit 1 by her admission. Cortes was not injured in the collision. DRIVER 2: FUNFSCHILLING, COLLIN M. I contacted Collin M. Funfschilling(DOB: 09/04/2000) in the driver seat of Unit 2. 1 positively identified Funfschilling by his valid Washington Driver License and established him as the driver of Unit 2 by his admission. Funfschilling was not injured in the collision. PASSENGER: CORTES SEBASTIAN N. Sebastian N. Cortes (DOB: 03/13/2010)was identified and established as the uninjured right front passenger of Unit 1. STATEMENT: FUNFSCHILLING, COLLIN M. I spoke with Funfschilling about the collision.The following is a summary of our conversation: Funfschilling drove Unit 2 south on Main Avenue S in the number two lane and stopped at the stop-bar just before the intersection of S 3rd Street for a solid-red circular traffic signal. Funfschilling heard the unknown vehicle sounding its horn in the number one lane next to him. Unit 1 suddenly entered the intersection eastbound on S 3rd Street, running the red light. Unit 2's front bumper collided with Unit 1's rear-driver door in the intersection. Cortes,the driver of Unit 1, said something to the effect of, "I know", when Funfschilling said Cortes ran the red traffic signal. This concluded my conversation with Funfschilling. PROXIMATE CAUSE I determined the proximate cause of the collision by the witness' statement, Funfschilling's statement, damage to both vehicles, and Unit 2's point of rest. Cortes' actions were the proximate cause of the collision, namely her violation of RCW 46.61.050(1), which states: The driver of any vehicle, a person operating a bicycle, and every pedestrian shall obey, and the operation of every personal delivery device shall follow, the instructions of any official traffic control device applicable thereto, and as specified in this chapter, placed in accordance with the provisions of this chapter, unless otherwise directed by a traffic or police officer, subject to the exception granted the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle in this chapter. Cortes was faced with a steady solid-red circular signal, as defined in RCW 46.61.055(3)(a), which states: Vehicle operators facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none,then before entering the intersection control area and shall remain standing until an indication to proceed is shown. CITATION I issued Cortes a citation (#5A0688584)for her violation of RCW 46.61.050(1). DISPOSITION This concluded my involvement in this case.
