On 9/5/2025 1 was working as a uniformed patrol officer and driving a marked patrol vehicle for
the City of Renton. I was dispatched to a report of a hit and run which had occurred the evening
of 9/4/2025 in the 3200 block of Maple Valley Highway Renton/King/WA.
James A Kassebaum DOB: 4/19/1962 was calling to report that he was driving west on Maple
Valley Highway in the#1 lane. He said that he was slowly overtaking a vehicle in the#2 lane
when a silver Mercedes came up behind him at a high rate of speed. He said that the Mercedes
tailgated him until there was some distance between James and the other vehicle in the#2 lane.
He said that the Mercedes then attempted to cut in-between James and the other vehicle but
collided with the driver side rear bumper of the Jetta.
James said that the Mercedes fled the scene west on Maple Valley Highway at a high rate of
speed. He said the damage would be to the passenger side front bumper quarter panel area on
the Mercedes.
James said that he did not get a license plate and could only identify the suspect vehicle as a
silver older Mercedes. He also could not provide any unique details about the Mercedes
(wheels, stickers, damage, etc.) He described the driver as a younger black male but could not
be more specific.James believed he could possibly identify the suspect if seen again.
He advised he would press charges only if a suspect was located.
This case is closed pending more information.
