We hope that the information shown will be of value to you. As a result of the questionnaire, we have purchased bags similar to those shown for Centralia. We have established t. the following price schedule for ground sludges 500 for 50 lb. (sacked) 5o¢ for 100 lb. (bulk) $6.00 for 1 ton (bulk) $4.o0 for 1 cu.yd. (bui ' Bulk purchases require purchaser to provide container and load from stockpile of ground sludge. These prices are based on estimates of actual cost cf grinding and sacking. We use a Royer NSB.'4. Thaik you for your cooperation in completing and returning the questionnaire promptly. Yours very truly, J. F. WOLFF CIVIL ENJINEER 1506 SMITH TOWER SEATTLE 4, WASHINGTON PHONE, MAIN 0644 January 29, 195h The honorable Mayor and Council city of alnton INashington Gentleman: The attaet.ed claim for extra work in the amount of 41,248.16 has been checked against the inspecor's records and found to be reasonable. I recommend tiat they be anprovaa. Item 1 in the a runt of 466,.29 represents the cost of extra excavation beyond that shown on the plans. The contractor's bid was based on the elevation of existing ground shown on the plan, which had been taken !Prom the "As constructed" plane of the original plant construction. it was found duriiig conatruction that the ground level was actua,14 1-1/2 feet higher, necesaitattng a greater amount of excavation. Thu amount as computed on an actual time basis agrees closely with the aniount com- puted on a unit bare. ;Lea 2 , sludge bypass, was necessitated by the dec:s'.on to provide for a pump suction connection to the new digester. This had m ,. been pro- viaed for in the original plans because it would not be neceaeary for or&nary operation. Powever, it would facilitate the work i1 it is necessary to clean the digester, and the cost would be a minima if Installed now. Item 3, repair to concrete filtc>r line, $42.07, was due to breaks in a sewer ltne adjacent to the sludge concentrator which had to be re- paired before the excavation could proceed. The contract provided that we would pay actual cost plus 15$ for auViorised extra wcrk. The 15% covers overhead, geaeral supervisior., depreciaticn and profit. The remaining items on the statement, totalling $177.23, were due to C..eficlerci,.s in Dorr Co. equipment. The Darr Co. has agreed to make refund to the contractor of the amount shown.
