ELDRIDGE GOVERNOR 408 OLD CAPITOL BUILDING OINECION AND CHIEF ENGINEER OLYMPIA, WASHINIGTON i August 15, ;051 Mr. James Hi':;hton Subject: Earlington Sewers. City Engineer Renton, Washington Dear M%. Hirhton: Enclosed is a letter of approval for the Earlington sewers. Ile prefer not to use sewers smaller than B inch, but we have been approving h.-inch pipe for the last manhole spacing on sewers which will not require extension in the suture. It is assumed that all of the 6—inch sewers called for in these plans fall in this category. I Ordinarily we expo t manhole ,spacings not to exceed 400 feet. On lines By Co F and H, this spacing is exceeded. Certain cities in the State make a practice of using spacings as great as 500 feet E and report nc undue trouble. We are unfamiliar with past practice at Renton, where you may have been using these long spacings, and therefore not taken exception to them in cur approval. Regarding the manhole at Shattuck and Second Avenues, about which we talked once before, I was mistaken in assuming that the sanitary sewer dipped under the existing storm sewer, and my criticism was out of order.
