Sealed bids for proposal will be received by the City of Renton at the Council Chambers in the City Hall until 8-00 P. M., (A i At this time the bids will be publicly opened and read,, after which the bids will be considered and the award made as early as practicable. No proposal may be changed or withdrawn after the time set for receiving bids. Proposals shall be submitted on the forms attached hereto. 2. The work to be done is shown on the plans. Quantities are understood to be otily approximate. Final payment will be based on Yield m--asurement of actual quar:;:i' ies and at the unit price bid. The City reserves the right to add to or eliminate portions of the work as deemed necessary. 3. Plans may be examined and copies obtained at the City Engineer's Office. Bidders shall satisfy themselves as to the local conditions by inspection of the sine. Work along hignways must be in conformance with the applicable County or State regulations. 4. The bid price : ,r any item must include the performance of all work and the furnishing of all material n-:cessary for completion of that item as described in the specifications. Where alternate material is bid, the bidder shall fully describe the material proposed, either in the bid proposal or supplementary letter attached to the proposal. 5. The bid price shall be stated in terms of the units indicated and as a total amount. In the event of errors, the unit price bid will gcvern. Illegible figures will invalidate the bid. 5. The right is reserved to reject any or all bids and to waive informalities if it is deemed advantageous to the City to do so. 7. I'LI�;: ,1_ DitiL:iE;� SIG1;tsUs ■ C,eneral Conditions The Specifications to be followed for this project will be the "Standard Specifications for m,"nicipal Fublic Works Construction 1963 , prepared by Washington State Chapter American Public Works Assoc.aticn as adopted by the City of Itentor . SPECIAL PROVISIONS (1) Backfilling of Pipe Trench: No work shall be covered until it has been examined by the Crity Engineer. The earth filled around and to a depth of six inches over top of the pipe shall be iree from stones and hand tamped with the utmost care so as to obtain the greatest compactness and solidity possible. From six inches above the top of the pipe the backfill shall be placed uniformly in layers 12 inches or less in depth. Each layer snail be compacted to 9riC ^..+.inum by using a vibra- tory comoactor.where in the ,judgment of the !7ity Engineer the native material is not suitable to be returned to the ditch,it shall be wasted and the ditch shall be backfilled with, select backfill. All cost for backfilliag, comiacting and disposal of execs and rejected material shall be absorbed in the *snit price bid for sewer pipe in place. The select backfill will be paid for at the unit price bid. (2) Pavement Restoration: The pavement restorz:tion shall be performed by the ity of • nton and shall not be part of this contract. The sewer trenches and construction areas shall be neatly finished to the lines and oxistin& grades as shown on the plans. Proper compaction of the backfill is essential and reference is hereby made to Section Number One (1) entitled "Backfilling of Pipe Trench", of the Special Provisions. (3) L. and Grades: The City Engineer shall have the right to make reason- aTile changes in the grades as they are sho;m on the drawings. Grades will be established in the form of offset stakes at stations not greater than 50 feet, set Ln advance of the work. Wherever work is in piogress, the Contractor shall have in his employ a man competent to set batter boards or other construction guides from the line and grade stakes given by the City Engineer. Such employee shall have the duty and responsibility of placing and maintaining such construction guides. Batter boards set with an engineer's level shall be used for all lines set on a grade of 0.50% or less, at least three sets of batter boards shall remain in place during pipe laying operations. If, through the Contractor's negligence, any stakes should be destroyed and require resetting, a sum shall be deducted from the Contractor's final payment eq :.ivalent to the extra cost in engineering required for such replacement. The Contractor shall arrange his work in such manner as to allow a reason- able time for the setting of stakes for the next phase of his operation so that his work will not be delayod while .aitinc for construction guides. Special Provisions (Continued) (4) Public Liability and Pro eft Damage Insurance: The Contractor shall, octain and keep in Force dur � the term of the contract, public liabilit; and :,roperty damage insurance in companies and in form to be approved by the City. Said insurance shall provide coverage to the Cony ictor, any subcontractor perforrinl; work provided by this contract, a:- the City.
