Webley, Director 1 M E M O R A N D U M TO: Abdoul Gafour, Utilities DATE: August 26, 3987 FROM: Randy Berg, Staff Designer SUBJECT: New Sewer - Old Septic Tank at Maplewood Golf Course This memo is to confirm that the Parks Department is aware of and in favor of leaving the existing septic tank system in place at the maplewood Golf Course Clubhouse . With, the new sanitary sewer line conncected to the clubhouse, the old septic tank can serve as a grease trap. Cleaning two or three times a year should be adequate to keep the grease out of the sewer. This will become a regularly scheduled maintenance operation for us. "The Contractor shall comply with all the regulations of the permit issued by the Department of Fisheries regarding sewer construction adjacent to the creek and including the creek crossing." 1-07.16 PROTECTION AND RESTORATION OF PROPERTY (SUPPLEMENTAL SECTION) PAYMENT. All costs for the protection and repair specified in this section are incidental to the contract. The Contractor shall include all related costs in the unit bid prices of the contract. 1-07.23(1) PUBLIC CONVENIENCE AND SAFETY (-SUPPLEMENTAL SECTION) The Contractor shall insure ingress and egress for vehicular access during all phases of construction for emergency vehicles to the Golf Course Club House and all otter buildings within the golf course property. 7-17 SANITARY SEWERS 7-17.2 MATERIAL (SUPPLEMENTAL SECTION) IN PARAGRAPH 1 DELETE: All pipe materials except Ductile Iron and PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). IN PARAGRAPH 4 DELETE: All pipe material sections except PVC Sewer Pipe 9-05.12 and Ductile Iron Sewer Pipe 9-05.13. 7--17.3(3) BACKFILLING SEWER TRENCHES (SUPPLEMENTAL SECTION) During construction of the sewer pipe from MH 5 to MH 6, the trench backfill shall be 100%, at the conclusion of each days constr%­_,tion, on all areas within the asphalt pavement. The coat for providing 100% backfill shall be included in the bid item Brice for 15 inch sanitary sewer pipe. 7-17.3(2)H SIDE SEWER CONNECTIONS (SUPPLEMENTAL SECTION) The Contractor shall construct 6 and 4 inch side sewers from the sewer interceptor or lateral to serve the club house and the three residences. The minimum grade for the side sewers shall be Lwo percent (2%). The side sewer connections to serve each building must be made between the soil pipe and the septic tank. All cost involved in locating the soil pipe and septic tank, for each side seo+er connection, shall be included in the bid item Price for side sewer pipe. Side sewer connection shall not start until the 15 inch sewer interceptor and the 8 inch sewer lateral have been constructed, tested, flushed and deemed ready for use by the Engineer. The cost of all 6 inch and 4 inch side sewer fittings required for the complete installation of each side sewer, except for tees or wyes, shall be included in the bid item price for side sewer pipe. The cost involved in testing the side sewers shall be included In the bid item price for side sewer pipe. 7.17.3(2)J METRO MANHOLE CONNECTION (SUPPLEMENTAL SECTION) f The Contractor shall. acquaint himself with and comply with the regulations { contained in the permit issued by METRO and also with the regulations contained at the back of thle Special Provisions for connection to METRO MHR10-36. The Contractor shall replace the existing 12 inch stub with a 15 inch stub. All I work involved in the compliance with the permit regulations will be incidental to �ae contract pay item. 7-17.3(2)K PUMPING AND FILLING SEPTIC TANKS (SUPPLEMENTAL SECTIO'J) After all side sewers Are constructed, tested and accepted ready for use by the Engineer, each septic tank must be pumped out with the sewage properly disposed of, the septic tank tops must be crushed and the septic tank filled with dirt and/or sand. There shall be no voids in the backfill of each septic tank. Plug each septi,; tank outlet with a 1 foot section of mortar. All of the work described in this supplemental section shall be included in the bid t em price. I 7-17.3(3)L BANK RUN GRAVEL FOR TRENCH BACKFILL (SUPPLEMENTAL SECTION) III Bank run gravel for trench backfill shall consist of aggregate for gravel base, as specified in Section 9-30.7C. The new connection to the manhole shall be mad? by core drilling and use of a Kor-N-Seal Boot as distributed• by P.I .P.E. , Inc. , 4601 South Orchard, Tacoma, Washington 98409 , (206) 623-7772. 8. The connection shall be plugged and not put into service until the tributary system has been cleaned, inspected, tested, and approved by the (District) 9. Where a firm foundati3n is not encountered at the grade established, due -o soft, spongy, or other unstable soil. , such unstable soil under the pipe and for a width of at least one diameter on each side of thk: pipe shall be removed to the depth directed by the Architect and replaced with gravel or other suitable selected material pro- perly compacted to provide adequate support for the pipe. 3.02 BACKFILL A. Backfilling shall be carefully done in such a manier as not to disturb or damage the installation. Not until pipe joints have set, piping has been tested, and the installation has been inspected and approved, shall trenches he backfilled. Backfill shall start as soon after approval as possible to avoid damage to finished work. If finished work is damaged prior to and during bdckfilling ope.•a- tions, such work shall oe replaced or repaired and retested before backfilling is continued. B. The backfill from the bottom of pipe to the horizontal diameter shall be made with budding material. From the horizontal diameter of the pipe to a point one foot above the top of pipe, backfill shall be made with approved backfill material. C. Both bedding and backfill material shall be carried up evenly on both sides of the pipe simultaneously in approximately 6-inch layers and thoroughly compacted. D. Backfill material from one foot above the top of pipe to grade shall be carried up in even layers not to exceed 12 inches in loose thickness, except layers in the top 2 feet shall not exceed 6 inches in loose thickness. Each layer shall be thoroughly compacted with mechanical tampers to 95% compaction. E. Take special care to compact the backfill under services where they ' shall enter buildings and manholes to prevent settling. The Contractor shall be fully respons 'ble for any damages to piping or property as a result of settling around service lines. Water cannot be used for compactien without written approval of the Architect. 3.03 SHORING AND PUMPING A. All excavations shall be shored and braced by suitable methods and materials to prevent danger to persons or structures or injurious caving and erosion if required by the depth of excavation or safety regulations. Excavations shall he maintained free of water until pipe is bedded and anchored. All necessary pumping equipment, Dower, materials and qualified personnel shall he furnished b; the the Contractor as required. This person shall have a minimum of 5 years experience in handling lawn sod. Staff shall be of sufficient size to be able to fur- nish required materials, deliver, plant and install all materials as shown on plans and promptly expedite the work. Lawn es_ablishment period shall begin immediately fol-lowing seedinq and shall include any necessary water- inq, weed control, or repair and reseeding of any damaged or non-germinating areas. B.
