Wet Well Mounted Station Submittal Specifications June, lyil - Page Two that the thermal expansion of the shaft is held to a minimum and so that the end play is limited to the clearance within the hearing. To minimize seal wear resulting from shaft deflection in the mechanical seal caused by the radial thrust of the pump, the shaft is a minimum of I';h' diameter from the top of the impeller through the lower'Tic tor bearing supporting the impeller. The dimension from the lowest hearing to the top of the impeller is h". The bearing nearest the impeller is designed for combined thrust and radial load. The upper bearing is free to move linearly with the thermal expansion of the shaft and is designed for radial load only. The shaft is solid one-piece stainless steel to eliminate corrosion within the pump or the mechanical t seal. r The pump impeller is of the enclosed type made of close gained cast iron and is balanced. The impeller has a taper fit and is keyed and secured to the motor pump shaft by a stainless steel cap screw equipped with a ny-lock or other suitable self-locking device. The impellet is readily removable without the use of special tools. To prevent the buildup of stringy materials, grit and other foreign particles around the pump shaft, all impellers less than full diameter are trimmed inside the impeller shroud. The shroud remains full diameter so that close minimum clearance from shroud to volute is maintained. Both the end of the s❑alt and the bore of the impeller are tapered to permit easy removal of the impeller from the shaft. The pump is vacuum primed from above the impeller and behind a full shroud. The pump adapter is made so tht water level can rise in the adapter. and submerge the seal assembly. The pump shaft is sealed against leakage by a single faced mechanical seal installed between the impeller and the pump backhead. The seal is of carbon and ceramic construction with the mating surfaces lapped to a flatness tolerance of one light band. The routing ,,me is held in mating position with the stationary carbon by a stainless steel spring. The pump ,. .cute is tumished with mounting lugs and is bolted to the machinery chamber floor plate. MOTORS The pump motors are specially built NEMA P-base open drip proof induction type. They have normal starting torque and low starting current as specified for NEMA Design B characteristics. 9 The motors are not overloaded at the design condition nor at any head in the operating range as specified under operating conditions. The motor is fitted with heavy lifting eyes, each capable ' of supporting the entire weight of the pump and motor. 4 special varnish treatment is applies ha the stator windings and cost preventive compounds shall be used to coat the rotor and stator air gap surfaces and protect the motor against corrosion.
