Detailed information on the mode of experimental procedure as well as the test conditions will be given in said Technical Standard. The surface of the examined test pieces totals to 800 cm2 each. Using 16 test items per test period the following test scheme was used: ➢ monthly sampling of surface biomass (test period 3 months altogether) ➢ sampling after 2 months (test period 2 months altogether) ➢ sampling after 3 months (test period 3 months altogether) The test specimens were placed into running tap water for 20 hours, disinfected by means of 1% chlorine bleaching for (30 ± 5 min) and rinsed once more with drinking water, before the expo- sure was carried out. Time of exposure: 1-month samples 1 a: 1 St test period from 29.04.2008 to 26.05.2008 1 b: 2"d test period from 26.05.2008 to 25.06.2008 1 c: 3rd test period from 25.06.2008 to 27.07.2008 2-month samples 2a: 1 St test period from 29.04.2008 to 25.06.2008 3-month samples 3a: 1 St test period from 29.04.2008 to 27.07.2008 The exposition was carried out in containers with ground water of drinking water quality at a con- tinuous flow rate of approx. 20 I/h over a period of three months. The temperature range of the water was 11.00C and 12.6°C After one, two and three months the test pieces as well as the corresponding negative reference samples (stainless steel) and the positive reference samples (paraffin) were scraped off to ana- lyse the formation of biofilm. The surface biomass was then transferred to suitable glassware. The following centrifugation was carried out at 3.000 x g for 10 minutes and the volume of the sedimented surface biomass determined. Test results: The positive refence sample (paraffin) showed a pronounced formation of biofilm during all test periods (limiting value: >_ 1.5 ml / 800 cm2). There was no formation of surface biomass on the negative reference sample (limiting value: < 0.01 ml /800 cm2). Hygiene-Institut des Ruhrgebiets V I 66474ek-08-SI Institut fur Umwelthygiene and Umweltmedizin Seite 3 von 3 The results of the analyses of the specimens of 800 cm2 surface in total, pursuant to DVGW Technical Standard W 270 were as follows: Volumen of surface biomass (single values and arithmetic mean of two test pieces, given in ml / referring to 800 cm2) Start of test: 1-month values 2-month values 3-month values 29.04.2008 29.04.08 - 26.05.08 la < 0.01 / < 0.01 < 0.01 < 0.01 /< 0.01 2a 26.05.08 - 25.06.08 lb < 0.01 / < 0.01 < 0.01 3a 0.01 /< 0.01 < 0.01 0.01 25.06.08 - 27.07.08 1 c 0.01 / 0.01 0.01 Limiting values [ml/800 cm2] General application: arithmetic means <_(0.05 + 0.02) _< (0.05 + 0.02) _<(0.05 + 0.02) Large surface seals (D 1): arithmetic means <(0.12 +0.03) s(0.12 + 0.03) <_(0.12 +0.03) Small surface seals (D 2): arithmetic means <(0.20 + 0.03) s(0.20 + 0.03) _<(0.20 +0.03) Assessment: Provided that it is applied correctly the material Hard Rubber BKM-HR-1081 is suitable for use in drinking water systems according to the results of the microbiological ex- aminations pursuant to DVGW Technical Standard W 270 (11/2007).
