On 09-20-2025 1 was acting supervisor for patrol squad 1AN. At approximately 0827 hours Officer Chang called me to advise that he was involved in a collision at the Brown Bear Carwash situated at 621 Rainier AVE S. I responded to the scene and gathered the following: This location utilizes a conveyer belt-like system where vehicles enter the carwash and proceed through the carwash with the vehicle in neutral, and without any brake or steering input by the driver. Officer Chang explained that a brush from the carwash wrapped around the hand-controlled spotlight on the driver side of patrol Tahoe B351,WA XMT/74613D.This prevented B351 from proceeding through the carwash and B351 was struck from behind by the black 2016 Toyota Corolla,WA/ AXG1554. B351 sustained minor rearend damage to the plastic hitch cover portion of the bumper.The Corolla sustained minor front end damage to the front license plate/license plate frame. B351 also sustained damage to the driver side A-pillar due to the car wash brush wrapping around the spotlight and extracting two of the three rivets which retain the spotlight.There was no apparent damage to the carwash. I contacted the Brown Bear manager, Israel. Israel showed me surveillance footage from inside the carwash which depicts what is previously mentioned. I provided Israel with a link to upload the footage to the case file. There were no reported injuries. I facilitated an exchange of information between the involved parties. I photographed the damage to B351 and the Corolla and uploaded the photos to the case file. The proximate cause of the collision was the carwash brush(es) wrapping around B351's spotlight, preventing B351 from proceeding through the carwash.
