INSPECTION OBSERVATION / REMARKS As requested, I was on site and performed the following inspections: Reinforcing Steel Placement Location: Detention Vault - Slab and Footings. I reviewed the above noted drawings and inspected reinforcing steel for footing dimensions, bar placement, spacing, bar size and grade, lap splices and clearances for concrete cover. The contractor has placed #4 bars @ 18” each way at mid-depth in the 5” slab on grade. Exterior wall footings were reinforced with (3) #5 bars longitudinal bottom and #5 bars @ 18” o/c transverse. Interior walls were reinforced with (4) #5 bars longitudinal bottom and #5 bars @ 12” o/c transverse. All bar sizes and grades, lap splices and clearances for concrete cover are per plans and specifications. Concrete Placement Location: Detention Vault - Slab and Footings. Today the contractor placed concrete for the above noted locations. Miles Sand and Gravel supplied 190.25 cubic yards of concrete, mix #18400F. Concrete was placed by boom pump and mechanically consolidated. Reinforcing steel mats were secured and remained in place during concrete placement. I observed concrete placement observation and performed concrete sampling and testing. I obtained a composite sample of concrete from the 3rd and 21st truck and performed temperature, slump and air content testing. 12 - 4x8 cylinder specimens of concrete were cast for compressive strength testing. The cylinders are placed in cure boxes on site. The cylinders will be picked from the site the next day and transported to AAR laboratory for further curing and testing. Concrete Test Results are as follows: Truck Number: #1135, Ticket Number: 1113646, Mix #: 18400F, Temperature: 69F, Slump: 6.5” and Air Content: 1.0%. Truck Number: #1161, Ticket Number: 1113791, Mix #: 18400F, Temperature: 66F, Slump: 6.5” and Air Content: 1.1%. The contractor placed concrete for the detention vault walls at cells 1-3. Miles supplied 139.25 cubic yards of concrete, mix # 18400F. Concrete was placed by boom pump and consolidated with mechanical vibrator. I observed that clearances for reinforcing steel were maintained during placement. I obtained and checked each truck’s delivery ticket as it arrived on site. I obtained a composite sample of concrete from the first truck. I performed temperature and slump testing on the fresh concrete. Additionally, I cast one set of 5 - 4x8 cylinder specimens of concrete for compressive strength testing at 7 and 28 days with one hold cylinder. Concrete cylinders will remain on site in a cure box overnight. The cylinders will be picked up tomorrow and transported to AAR laboratory for further curing and testing.
