Subject: South 2nd Street Improvement Waiver Request
Dear Yong:
The pre-application meeting minutes for the project, dated May 23, 2024 (PRE24-000148),
indicate South 2nd Street improvements will be by City of Renton with City TIP Project 23-22.
In addition, the City will support a waiver to install the improvements with the City’s TIP project
rather than the Renton High School Replacement project, provided the necessary dedication is
provided. At the time of the pre-application meeting, the TIP project was in preliminary design
and a cross section had not been determined. The Renton School District and the design team
have worked with City of Renton to determine the required dedication. A finalized right-of-way
dedication and sections were provided to City of Renton with the minutes from our meeting on
June 11, 2025. We are writing to formally request a waiver for construction of right-of-way
improvements with the Renton High School Replacement project, and construction of these
improvements with the City’s TIP 23-22 project. We also request that the existing sidewalk
along South 2nd Street remain in place until the City’s project occurs.
Attached are drawings showing the right-of-way improvement sections and required dedication
agreed upon during our meetings with City of Renton. A maximum 24.5-foot dedication is
required. The dedication reduces in width at the west property line of the site. The project’s
construction will not extend south of the new property line and the curb adjacent to the new
parking lot, except at new driveways. The existing sidewalk along South 2nd Street will remain
in place until the City’s project occurs. The noted right-of-way dedication provides adequate
width for the City’s proposed future improvements. Relief from right-of-way improvements is
requested due to the City’s future project.
