NARRATIVE
25-8674
Unless otherwise stated, the following occurred in the City of Renton, County of King, State of
Washington.
On 10-06-2025 at approximately 1744 hours I was dispatched to a non-injury vehicle vs motorized
scooter collision that occurred in the 1900 block of Lind AVE SW. While enroute, dispatch advised
that all parties had pulled over into a parking lot and no one was requesting medical attention.
Upon arrival, I contacted the involved parties and determined that the driver of the motorized scooter
had injuries to his hands from falling and pain in his right leg. The Renton Regional Fire Authority
(RRFA) responded to the scene to evaluate him. While on scene, I collected the involved parties
driving documents and their independent recollection of events leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 said he was traveling westbound on SW 19th ST approaching Lind AVE SW in
lane 2 of 2. As he was approaching the intersection of Lind AVE SW and SW 19th ST, he had a green
light. He traveled westbound through the intersection and when he reached the west side of the
intersection, a male driving a motorized scooter collided into his driver side door. The driver of Unit#1
said he did not see the scooter coming and was unable to avoid the collision. The driver of Unit#1
and his passenger had no reports of injuries. Unit#1 sustained damage to the driver side door, driver
side rear door, and above the rear driver side tire.
The driver of the motorized scooter said he was traveling northbound in the 1900 block of Lind AVE
SW. He was traveling in the shoulder headed northbound against southbound traffic and disregarded
both the traffic control legend and the pedestrian walk sign. He collided the front of his scooter into
the driver side of Unit#1 and fell off his scooter hitting the pavement. His scooter sustained damage
to the handle. The driver of the motorized scooter said he had right leg pain and in his hands.
Based on the above statements, 1 determined the driver of the motorized scooter to be the proximate
cause of the collision. RCW 46.61.710 states, "(11) A person operating an electric personal assistive
mobility device (EPAMD) shall obey all speed limits and shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians
and human-powered devices at all times." The driver of the motorized scooter disregarded both the
traffic control legend, and the pedestrian walk signal.
An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. I did not issue any citations. Officer
Goodwin photographed the damage to the Unit#1 and the scooter and uploaded them to Axon under
this case number.
