Connaeon FROM: Richard C. houghton SLBJBCT: Compl, rint from Monterry, Tor-ace it staff level we have talked ab.?ut this area to update ourselves on what had happened previously. As you know the file iru?icatea that the system is 4" ateeZ and has been in approximately 22 years. I think at th.'e time we mill o,.ut &u:.: a portio:i of thv:e system and take a samplF of a segment of' pipe to determdre the condition of that 4" ste,l pipe. once that ^ondition has been determined and if it l-oke like the pipe is in decent condition then probably our other alternative mould be to try and obtain an easement through tb, eaattrly side Monterey Terrace and install a tie :ine to complote a looped system. As soon as we find out the condition of the pipes, I will discuss it further with you. h[H:pmp RAY 22 1914. IF ► r s y: .x r • .. yr. Also at this time the City should start a regular program of 'lashing the hydranbe and Maims in MCAterey ?noses, wadi each time the City has obtained enough infol Lion to solve tbs eziatin` problems. Mr, Barnes stated that. Los bad taste as ell as the foul odor of the enter probably amens free a chemical action of the deteriorating pi, rather than from net enough cironuation of enter in thr prevent Mains. (2) Tests were taken with City pressure recorders off of the Mains as well as in private ha, a. The pressure charts revealed a fairly constant rate of pressure in the Maine with the pressure being 84 pat most of the time. &wept when the itt. Client POW Station we in operation and than the pressure rose to 106 psi. if the 6 residents that complained about high water presevre, 4 of theas had no pressure reducers in their private systems. Tito were then rum an the home that had pressure ;edwos_w trA still complained of high pressure surge$. The tests -evealsd that these haws did have very high pressures for short periods of Vim. These presewes were always higher than that of the e7tistisg water Main pressure, which wm0/ she that the City water preeare use net the saww of their preesme problems. It ens decided that the emeenwanly high Was- rev wea induced in tr the interior service Maims by water ham mar, and then looked into the system b7 the prescwre reducer. A solution was submitted by Mr. Bann that there should probably be surge relief tanks metalled in back of the pressure r lacers which would then step the emypes of psessue is the eysisn. stnoerely, Ronald 01sea Water Roginses Roams r„ 'f ?Yf- x Mr. Jack Nilson City mWinsor City Flan hlentori, Washington Res Letter from Monterey Community ::luo September 26, 1967 Derr Jacks A survey of Mmteray Terrace Area was tr' n regarding complaints received about bad water with the following resaltes Of the 65 residents in Monterey Terrace, 39 more contacted hr, either door to door oanvasing or by letter. Of thosei 25 residents complained of rush water, 19 complained of bad tasting water, 12 had no complaints an argUing, 6 complained of high water pressure, and 1 oosplelmd of lost -star pressure. From the above survey it wma concluded that thars wars two separate problem. () Bad Lasts and rusty water, and (2) a possible press re problem.. Mr. Parry Barnes of CHO was conodtsd m both of these problems and the following facts am conclusions wets fussed. W The motor mains La Monterey Terrace are 40 Steel and arm in a looped mystea, own though the arse itself is at the and of tress win system. The water maims more :nstallad in 1951-52, which would msmn the maiar rue Atoprodmately 15 to 16 yes" old. It was felt that with 65 residents using water from At 4e looped maim there should be plenty of circulation to pro` Vs a good, clean s%Wlj of motor. It was a mo felt t1at a tie Use at this time to $rd Avenue Extension would not neoessar'ily solve thn problem. It was decided that tiara is probably main as "*I: as private service line deterisuatim in Monterey forraoo, and teat test samples of the min and service Uwe should be L-en to see exactly what condition the main is really in.
