WATER :JPPLY Required Fire Flow. The required fire flow is the rate of flow needed for fire flghtinq purposes to confine a ma* fire to the huddmgr within a block or ath, group complex The delermination of this flow depends upon the size, construction, occupancy, and expmure of Isudding%within and surrounding the block or group complex;consideration ■ may be given to automatic sprinkler protection. ■ A required fire flow shall be determined at appropriate locations in each district or section of the municipality. The minhntrm fire flow nruimrnenl is 500 grim and the maximum for a single fire is 12,000 grim Where local conditions indicate that consideration must be given to simultaneous fires,an additional 2,000 to 8,000 gpm will be,required. Table 4 gives the required duration for fire 11", Basic Fire Flow. The basic fire flew used in grading Items 1.5 inclusive, 7 and 8 shall be a fire flow indurative of the quantities needed 1e- handling firm in importanr districts The aAequacy of the supply works for the required fire i flows that may be higher than this basic fire flow, because of conditions that we abnormal when compared to the remainder of the mo,niciµslity,shall be considered under Item 10.All required fire fliers shall be considered under item 6. Distribution System. Main Sizes. The minor distributors supplying residential districts shall consist of mains at least 6-mcf e; in size / arranged so that they form a good gridiron in ail areas of the distribution system.Where long lemphs of pipe are necessary, 8 inch or larger mains should be used. In new construction 8-inch or larger pipe shall be used where dead ends and a poor gridiron are likely to e.ist fin a considerable period or where rho layout of the streets and the topography are not well adapted to a good gridiron. In commercial dishtcit, the minimum sire main shall be 8-inch.with 8 inch or, larger intersecting mains in each street; 12 inch or larger mains shall be used on the principal streets and for all long Ines that are net connected to other maim at intervals close enough for mutual wpport.
