Me proposed main would increase the smouut of available water auto the CB:, and increase the fire flows of tk,e aforementioned area. y September 9, 1971 MEMORANDUM TO: ju,;k Nilson, City Engineer FROM: Ron Olsen, Utility Engineering SU9JECT: Central Business District Improvement ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After studying tor. proposed CiiO improvement uro!ect, it is the conclusion of this office that a new 12" water main should be installed and cerVA n hydrants Installed and/or replar^d with modern style hydrants, in conjunction with the repaving of the area. The existing system is comprised basically of sore B" water main, but mostly 6" and A" water main. This proposed new 12" water main would be located in S. 3rd Street from Mill Avenue S. to Shattuck Avenue S. This new main would substantially increase the fire flows in the COD. Increased fire flows would be required to accommodate any future development in this area. The estimated cost of motrrial only for this project would be approximately 134,nOO.00 tax included. This main could be installed by City forces. This main should probably be installed in S. 3rd Street from Shattuck Ave. S. to Rainier Ave. S. at the same time. The additional cost for this additional work would be approximately S11,OOn.On. « Attached is a map showino the existing water mains and the proposed new 12" water main.
