Attention: Mr. Ronald L. Olsen, Water Engineer 2
Gentlemen:
We have for reply your letter of July 23, concerning booster pumps
at Tiffany Park poop station.
A manual covering all turbine p — sold to the City of Renton by
Pump, Pipe 6 Power Co. (now a part of Cornell Manufacturing Co.) is enclosed.
Performance curve SC 2062 shows the present performance of pump
N423 (12AC-3 stage) and M424 0 4AC-2 stage) operating separately and in
parallel. This sheet and SC-1716 show the original performance.
Pump 0423 had four (4) stages removed. To replace them would cost,
including a new shaft and assembly labor, $862.90. Pump 0424 had two (2)
im-ellers trimned and two (2) stages removed. To replace the latter,
including a new shaft and assembly labnr, would cost $12L-6-20.
To replace the trimmed imp•-11ers with new impellers at the same
time would cost $228.00.
When the pumps are dismantled the bearings, impeller seal rings,
etc. will be examined for wear. If any replacement or additional labor
is required, a quota ti on will be submitted.
These prices are f.o.b. Portland, Oregon net 30 days less 2/, 10th
prox, state ano local taxes extra. We prefer to have the motors with the
pumps so that impeller adjustment, seal location and alignment become
our responsibility.
If after examination of the drawings in the manual, you wish sepia
copies, please let us know which you desire.
Components for the bowl assemblies are normally carried in stock
here so we can make changes for you with a minimum of down time.
Yours truly,
CORNELL MANUFACTURING Co.

Subject: Tiffany lark Booster rump Station Alterations
Due to changes in the Tiffany Park service area system - the addition
Of the Rolling Hills elevated tank and the changing of a closed dump-
ing systemm to an open end pumping system, the existing pumps should
be ehangeo or altered.
A study was made with the Johnston Pimp Company representatives as
to what changes would be required to improve the operating efficiency
of these pumps. The results are as follows:
1. Pump No. 423, -4ode1 12 AC, 25 N.P., presently a 3-stage pump
should he increased to A 6-stage pump and generally overhauled.
The parts only, required to rebuild the existing pump would
cost $852.10 f.o.b. California. The removal, rebuilding, and
reinstallation of the pump would be additional. The cost of
a new factory assembled Model 12 AC 6-stage pmp would cost
$3,111.00, f.o.b. Renton.
2. Pump No. 424 Model 14 AC, 40 H.F., presently a 2-stage pump
with trimmea impellers should lie reased to a 4-stage with
full diameter impellers and ganef—iy overhauled.
The parts only, required to rebuild the existing pump would
cost $1.143.50, f.O.b. California. The removal, rebuilding,
and reinstallation of the pump would he additional.
The cost of a new factory assembled Model 14 AC 4-staae with
full diameter impellers would cost $1.140.Op, f,o.b. Renton.
It has been determined that City crews have the capability and the
equipment to pull and reinstall these purps, so it is my recommenda-
tion that the City purchase the two factory assembled pusrps rather
that rebuild the existinq p,mnps. The existing pumps do not have any
trade in value but they should be kept for futare applications if the
Tiffany lark pump station is ever abendoned.
Bert McHenry -2- May 24, 1912
The total amount of money required for rhese pumps would be $2,251.00
plus $112.55 sales tax or $2,363.55.
If further information is required please contact me.
