Each truck shall have a cover of canvas or other suitable material of such size as to protect the mixture from the weather. 33-3.06 - SPREADING AND FINISHING ATB shall be spread with a spreading machine equipped with a stationary, vibratory or oscillating screed or cutoff device subject to the approval of the Engineer. Autom^.tic screed controls may be employed but will not be required. 33-3.06A - SLBGRADE PROTECTION Unless otherwise directed by the Engineer, the Contractor shall place ATB as a protection for a prepared subgrade on sections which are to recieve ATB, as soon as 10,000 square yards of the subgradt have been completed. This requirement shall not nec^scarily be limited to contiguous areas on the project. 33-3.063 - FINAL ATB COURSE x The final surface course of the ATB section, whether constructed in one or more lifts, shall not deviate at any point more than 3/8" from the bottom of a 10 ft. straightedge laid in any direction on the t -face on either side of the roadway crown. This section replaces vaceced Section 33, "Bituminous Plant Mix Pavement. The asphalt treated base for this project shall be placed .n one lift and to a compacted depth as shown on the plans. 33-1 - DESCRIPTIONS Asphalt Treated Base, ATB, consists of an aggregate base material which has been waterproofed and stabilized by plant mixing with an asphalt binder. If where deemed necessary by the Engineer, (S/B") (-) will be substituted for the (1-1/4") (-) at the same bid price. 24 4 DIVISION 2 - STREET AND RELATED CONSTRUCTION SECTION 13 - SiRF.ET AND DRAINAGE EXCAVATION Unclassified excavation shall be in accordance with Section 13 of the Standard Specifications e-cept as modified herein. Unclassified excavation shall include all materials excavated from the construction site and shall be used for roadway embankment or wasted, as determined by the En^sneer. All existing pavement within the construction limits shall be considered as part of the unclassified excavation. All areas shall be excavated, filled and/or backfilled as necessary to approach the grades shown on the drawings. In filled and backfilled areas, fine grading shall begin during the placement and compaction of the final layer. Firal grading shall produce a surface which is smooth and even, without abrupt changes in grade. Embankment shall be performed in accordance with Section 13 of the Standard Specifications. Compaction of embankment shall be by Method B, described in Section 13-3.10E3 of the Standat, Specifications. Embankment compaction shall be considered incidental to and part of the price. for Unclassified Excavation. SECTION 13-5 - PAYMENT The price for unclassified excavation shall include all coats of labor, equipment, and el. incidental costs in connection with excavation, grading, placement of embankment and wasting. The price per cubic yard shall consititute corplete compensation for materials excavated from the roadway and used for roadway fill or wasted,whlchever - is detenined by the owner. If no v-3tten claim is made by the Contractor within ten (10) days, such omission stall constitute acceptance by the Contractor that no claim for additional payment will be made. V f 19 10.07 - DISPLTES AND LITIGATION („ Any questions arising between the Inspector and the Contractor or his Superintendent or Foreman as to the meaning and Intent of any part of the Plans and Specifications shall be immediately brought to the attention of the Engineer and will be adjusted by him. n Failure on tM part of the City Engineer or his representative to discover and condemn or reject bad or inferior work or materials shall not to construed as an acceptance of any such work or materials, or the part of r the improvement in which the same may have been used. To prevent disputes and litigation, it is further agreed by the parties hereto that the City Engineer shall determine the quantity and quality of the several kinds of work embraced in these improvementa. He shall decide all questions relative to the execution of the work and the inter- pretation of the Plans and Specifications. 'n the event the Contractor is of the opinion he will be damaged by such interpretation, he shall, within three (3) days, notify the City Engineer and the City Clerk in writing of the anticipated nature and amount of the damage or damages. In the event an agreement cannot then be reached within three (3) days the City and the Contractor will each appoint an arbitrator and the two shall select a third. No one shall be qualified to act au an arbitrator who has, directly or Indirectly, any financial interest in the Contract or who has any business or family relationship with the Owner, the Contractor or the Engineer. Each .rNitrator selected shall be qualified by experience and by knowledge of the work involved in the mat_er to be submitted to arbitration. The decision of the major, of the arbitration board shall be binding upon both parties and stall be deliveted before any work is performed upon the feature in question. The arbitration shall be conducted in accordance with the statutes of the State of Wasiington and court decisions governing such procedure. 18 1 r i The Contractor shall he responsible for icquirirg the reaessary change orders that are required by any of his subcontractors. 10.04 - EXAMINATION OF CO"TLETED WORK If the Engineer requests it, the Contractor at any time before acceptance ,.t of the work, shall remove rr uncover such portions of the finished work as may be directed. After examination, the Contractor shall restore said portions of the work to the standard required by the Specifications. Should the work thus exposed or examined prove acceptable, tht uncovering or removing, and the replacing of the covering or making good of the parts removed shall be paid for as Extra Work, but should the work so exposed cr examined prove unacceptable, the uncovering, remcving and replacing ahail be at the Contractor's e;<pense. In the event that any material or workmanship does not meet the require- masts or specifications, the City may have the option to accept such material or workmanbhip if the City Engineer deems such acceptance to be in the best interest of the City, provided, the City may negotiate payment of a lover unit price for said material or workmanship. 10.05 - CLEANING UP The Contractor shall remove from the O:roer's properry and from all public and priv.,te property, all temporary structures, tools and equipment, rubbish and waste materials resulting from his operation or csused by his employees, and shall remove all surplus materials leaving the si'.e smooth, clean and true to line and grade. -- 10.06 - PAYMENT FOR WORK BY OWNTER The cost of the work performed by the Owner in removing construction equip- ment. tools and supplies in accordance with P.:rngraph 10.05 and in correcting deficiencies in accordance with Paragraph 6.02 shall be paid by the Con- tractor. i 11 1 t � - All buried pipe shall be laid upon prapared foundation or bedding material so that the bottom luadrant is uniformly supported throughout its entire length, as specified in Section TRENCH EXCAVATION, BEDDING AND BACKFILL. f 74 - CONSTRUCTION a. Laying and Jointing: Cast iron pipe, ductile iron pipe, and accessories shall be handled in such a manner as to assure delivery to the trench in sound undamaged condition. Particular care shall be taken not to injure the pipe lining and coating. Cutting of pipe shall be done in a neat, workmanlike manner with an approved type mechanical cutter without damage to the pipe. Jointing st ill be accomplished in accordance with manufacturer's recommenda- tions. Pipe placed within the limits of steel casing as shown on the plans shall be backfllled with suitable sand to restrict pipe floatation. The Contractor has the option of air-blowing o, pumping the sand. The cost of the sand, placement and related work will be incidental to pipe materials and no com- pensation will be made. b. Bends and Curves: Deflection from straight line and grade, as required by vertical curves, horizontal curves and offsets shall not exceed the maximum deflection per joint as recommended by the pipe manufacturer. If the align- ment requires deflectica in excess of the maximum recommended, special bends cr a sufficient number of shorter lengths of pipe shall be used to provide angular deflections -ithin the limits set forth. C. Special Anchorage: All free ends, bends, tees, laterals and an/ change in direction of piping shall be adequately braced and blccked to prevent movesent from thrust by use of concrete thrust blocks, tie rods and joint harnesses. Concrete thrust blocks must be poured against undisturbed ground. Thrust blocks shall be provided at all changes in direction of piping. These photographs shall be consider, as indicative of the nature of the original improvements in determining the adequacy or inadequacy of restoration. 71-3 - INDIVIDUAL F',ESTORATION REQUIREMENTS It will bthoove the Contractor to take every possible precaution to preserve the existing improvements. All damages to exist. ,• improvements from the Contractor's operation, whether with'n the road right-of-way or in private property shall be the sole responsibility of the Contractor to remedy. All such areas shall be restored to their preconstruction equivalent to the satisfaction of the Owner. 71-3.05 - MISCEL"U;E01;S All utilities including but not limited to sewer, water, gas services, telephone and power interrupted or uprooted during construction shall be repaired, replaced and/or rertored to the satisfaction of the Owner. All guard poets, traffic signs and rail boxes which are removed or disturbed during construction shall be reinstalled or replaced to the satisfaction of the Owner. All costs of repairing utilities interrupted or uprooted, replacing guard posts, traffic signsand mail boxes, shall be considered Incidental to the contract and no separate payment will be made. +r IL 39 1 SECTION 64 - CATCH BASINS r Catch Basins shall be constructed in accordance with Section 64 of t' Standard Specifications and Standard Plan No.s 49, 52, and 55. Cast iron game and covers Shall be Olympia Foundry No. 5435 or approved equal. Catch Basin Type I shall be Craystone No. CB-15 or approved equal. Catch Basin Type II shall be Craystone No. CB-19 or approved equal. The location and grade of catch basins shall be staked in the field by the Engineer. Catch Basin cover frames shall be installed in a minimum of two courses of adjusting bricks. All bricks shall be installed with full mortar coverage and shall be plastered to a depth of 3/4 inch on the outer surface. Catch Basin covers shall be adjusted to the elevation designated by the Engineer. Backfill around catch basins shall be compacted Dy mechanical tampers in accordance with Section 13-3.1OE3 "Method B" of the Standard Specifications. 64-5 - PAYMENT Payment for furnishing and placing catch basins shall be made at the res- pective unit prices per each as set forth in the Proposal, and shall be full compensation for all labor, equipment, materials, including excavation, backfill, compaction, and adjusting frame to final grade, and all incidentals. SECTION 68 - FINISHING AND CLEANLP FOR UNDERGROUND CONDUITS �,. 68-1 - CLCd"LP All pipes, catch basins, manholes and other appurtenances shall be cleaned of al'. debris and foreign materials. General cleanup of the entire construction area shall conform to the applicable requirements of Section 57 of the Standard Specifications. The Contractor shall renove all excess material and debris from the construction site. 38 61-3.05B - SELECT TRENCH BACKFILL n Select trench backfill shall be bank run gravel "Class B" and shall conform to Section 26 of the Standard Specifications and shall be used as directed by the Engineer. The quantity as shown in the Proposal is for the purpose of establishing a unit price only. Exact quantltiec will be determined in the field as i work progresses. 61-2.06 - COMPACTION OF TRENCH BACKFUL All backfill for pipe trenches shall be mechanically compacted by (a) power operated mechanical tamper as specified in Section 15-2.01A of the Standard Specifications or other mechanical compaction device approved by the Engineer. Compaction shall be made in one (1) foot lifts in areas under street and driveways. Compaction in these areas shall be to 95% of maximun density as measured by the Modified Proctor Test. Compaction in other areas Fhall be made in one (1) foot lifts and a maximum density o_' 90% (Modified Proctor) will be required. 61-5 - PAYMENT Trench excavation and backfill are incidental tc the furnishing and placing of pipe. The bid price for bedding gravel per lineal foot in place shall be full compensation for selecting, transporting, implacement, and compacting the bedding gravel. No further compensation will be made. Standard 3/4 inch opening and not more than 3% will pass the U.S. No. 200 (wet sieve), 0-8: will pass the U.S. No. 8 Sieve and 95-100% will pass the U.S. Standard 3/8 irch opening with a minimum sand equivalent of 50. 61-3.05 - BACF.FILLING Initial backfilling shall be performed only after inspection and approval of the installed pipe. The initial backfill material shall be carefully hand placed in strict accordance with Section 61-3.05, Standard Specifi- cations. Subsequent backfill shall not be placed until the initial backfill is approved. Initial backfill material shall be select trench excavation material. The material shall be free of wood, roots, bark and ocher extraneous material. The maximum stone .size shall be 3 inches and 95-100% of the mater- 1aI shall pass the U.S. Standard 1� inch opening. Subsequent backfill material shall be unclassified gravel obtained from trench excavation. Existing catch basins, or curb inlets as shown on the plans or as directed by the Owner shall be removed by methods conforming to Section 52-2.07 of the Standard Specifications. All salvageable materials shall become the property - the Owner. Payment for Construction of tree wells shall be considered as incidental to the construction of Cement Concrete Sidewalks. 52-5 - PAY:gNT The unit price bid per square yard shall be full compensation for constructing Portland cement concrete sidewalks to line and grade as shown. SECTION 50 - NONV"!EhrS v All existing monuments which may be covered over, damaged, displaced, removed or otherwise rendered useless, shall be reset or replaced as specified in Section 50. Monuments shall not be removed or altered without explicit authority of the Engineer. Batch Type Plants, shall apply to this project. , The asphalt concrete paving coaching shall be equipped with automatic screed controls with sensors for either or both sides of the paver, capable of sensing grade from an outside reference line such as a ski, sensing the transverse slope of the screed, and providing the electrical signals which i operate the screed to maintain the desired grade and transverse slope. The grade controller or sensor shall be constructed so it may be fitted with a ski-like shoe to ride on the adjacent mat or th, concrete gutter. C>s: The slope controller shall be capable of maintaining the screed at the desired transverse slope within plus or minus 0.1 percent in a 12-foot width. An asphalt tack coat (SS-1) shall be placed in accordance with Section 34 of the Standard Specifications. The tack coat shall be applied to all existing pavement surfaces, asphalt or concrete and between successive layers of Asphalt Concrete Pavement. The tack coat shall be considered as incidental to the cost of the Asphalt Concrete. 34-5 - 1T.ASGPdi'.fEST b PAYMENT Payment for furnishing and placing Asphalt Concrete "Class B" shall be =do at the unit price per ton as set forth in the Proposal and shall be full compensation for all labor, equipment, materials, and incidentals. SECTION 35 - ITMIDENTAL ASPEnLT Incidental Asphalt Concrete shall be Asphalt Concrete "Class B" and shall be used only at the direction of the Engineer for the restoration of existing _ driveways, paving aprons for store drain outfalls, patching around manholes, valves, etc., and for temporary pavement patches. Payment for furnl^hang and placing Incidental Asphalt Concrete shall be made . at the unit price per ton as set forth in the Proposal and shall be full cem- pensat:on for all labor, equipment, materials and incidentals. 30 e , 33-3.07 - CO'TACTINr f The Contractor will place on each project a sufficient number and type of rollers with cor_petent and experienced operators to e?ficiently compact the ATB mixture while it is still in a workable condi.t:on. The normally required minimum rolling equipment for each project will be two (2) static i f -- steel-weeeled rollers with at least one (1) of these rollers being of the tandem type. If the Contractor can obtain the regjired smoothness and density with fewer, or other types of compattion units, the Engineer mayppermit this. 33-3.08 - DE':gITY The ATB shall be compacted to a density of not less than 80% of the maximum theoretical density established by the Rice Vacuum Pycnometer method. The density of the ATB shall be determined by means of tests on pavement cores. The frequency of such cores shall be at the discretion of the Engineer, but in no case shall it be less than one (1) core for each normal day's production. 33-4 - MEASURE*'.ENT Asphe_lt treater! bast will be measured by the ton. 33-5 - PAYMENT Payment will be made for asphalt treated base on a per ton basis. The unit contract price per ton for ATB shall be considered full compensation for furnishing all labor, equipment, materials, tools and supplies and for all other costa including producing, screening, loading, hauls;.g, and stock- piling the asphalt treated base aggregate, furnishing the asphalt cement, mixing, hauling, spreading, compacting the asphalt treated base, and all other work not set forth as bid itemstbis contract incidental to fulfilling the requirements of these specifications. t SECTION 34 - ASPHAL3 CONCRETE PAVEMENT Asphalt Concrete Pavement "Class B" shall conform to Section 34 of the -- Stardard Specifications except as modified herein: 24 4 All poles shall be installed so that the mast arm is perpendicular to the centerline of the roadway from which it is stationed, unless otherwise r noted on the Plans. She poles shall be installed on leveling nuts secured to the anchor bolts and with locking nuts on the top of the base flange. The side of the shaft opposite the load shall be plumbed by adjusting the leveling nuts or as otherwise directed by the Engineer. The space between the concrete base and the bottom of the pole flange shall be filled with dry pack mortar to completely fill the space under the flange and ar--und the conduits and be neatly troweled to the conNiur of the pole .iange. A plastic drain hose (1/2"0) shall be inserted through the mortar tc provide drainage from the interior of the pole base and be trimned flush with the interior and exterior surface of the mortar. Dry pack aortar shall consist of a 1:3 mixture of cement and fire sand with just enough water so that the mixture will stick together on being melded into a ball by hand and will not exude free moisture when so pressed. Measurement for "Foundations" will be by the unit for each size and type specified poured in place. Payment will be made tinder: (1) "Street Light Pole Foundation, ", per each. Foundations for street light poles numbers 244, 245, 247 and 248 shall be constructed over existing concrete encased telephone cables. Founda- tions and anchor bolt dimensions are indicatdd on the Detail Sheet. v Three inch thick (min) styrofoam shall be placed around the encasement to completely separate it ft= the foundation. The approximate location of the encasement as determined by the Bell Telephone Company is indicated on the Detail Sheet. Depth of the encasement below ground varies depending on locaticn. The Contractor shall contact the Telephone Company prior to excavating and shall coordinate his wort: activifties with the Telephone Company during the construrtlon of the foundationq and trench excavation. The Contractor shall contact the Railroad regarding ti.eir conduit requirements into the controller cabinet foundation at the S. 4th Street - Burnett Avenue intersection. CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS AND POLE LOCATION " The foundations for all traffic, pedestrian, and street illumination (-- standards as well as for all traffic signal controllers, and master contactors, shall be constructed to the d1mensinn3 as specified in Table I below. Anchor bolt circle shall match that of the pole to be installed thereon. All excess materials shall be removed from the construction site and r disposed of at the Contractor's expense. Concrete foundations shall be troweled, brushed, edged, and finished in a workmanlike manner. Concrete shall be promptly cleaned from archer bolts and conduit after placement. The pole shaft and davit arm of the Type 11 units as provided by the City shall be idei.._cal to the Type I units. Where Type II units are specified on the Plans at the Intersections of t South 4th Street with :'ells Avenue and at South 4th Street with Williams Avenue the Contractor shall assemble the shaft and luminaire mast arm to be oriented as shown on the Detail Sheet. To install these Type II units on the 3'X3'X7' or Type B foundations specified at these locations the Contractor shall provide and install 1 an adaptor plate as specified on the Detail Sheet. The Contractor shall provide and install all anchor bolts, nuts and washers of the following dimensions for these poles: (a) For all 3'X3'X7' foundations: 1-3/4" X 60" (L) For the Type B foundation: 1-3/4" X 75" (approximate - See Detail Sheet, Type B foundation". The Contractor shall also provide and install all necessary bolts, nuts, and washers, of adequate size and c.trength, to secure the adaptor plate to the snchor base. Foundations which are to receive the Type II unite shall be used in the future for traffic signal mast aim poles. All 400 watt sodium vapor luminaires for all Type I and Type II poles shall have a Type II medium semi-cutoff light distribution. It shall be tti responsibility of the Contractor to provide the proper socket v setting as per manufacturers specifications before installation. Type II. and Type IV The City shall provide all Type III and Type IV street light poles. All units shall be furnished by the City complete and assembled including alignment ring, pipe nipples and duplex outlet boxes except as follows: (a) The 400 watt sodium vapor units for the Type IV standards shall be furnished by the City and installed by the Contractor. All 400 watt sodium va or luminaires to be mounted on the Type IV light standards shall have a TypL II short cutoff 4 light distribution. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to provide the proper socket setting as per manu- facturer's specifications before installation. 63 { SIC•NAL SFRVTCE Type A Service r At the South 4th Street - Hain Avenue intersection the Contractor shall provide all material for and install Type A signal service as indicated on the Detail Sheet. The in-line fuse connector kits shall be water- tight and shall be fitte ' with a 30 amp fuse. n Future Type A Service At the intersections of South 4th Street with Wells Avenue and at South 4th Street with Williams Avenue the Contractor shall install a Design B Junction box and provide and install conduit from the Junction box into the base of the pole as indicated on the Plans. These Junction boxes shall be used in the future for Type A signal service. At a future date a traffic controller shall be mounted on a traffic mast arm signal pole at these locations. Type D Service At the South 4th Street - Burnett Avenue intersection the Contractor shall provide and install modified Type D service in conjunction with the Master Contactor at this location. Type D service shall ba as indicated on the r,•afl Sheet. tw PAYMENT AND MEASUREMENT - SIGNAL SYSTEMS Measurement for the "Traffic Signal System" will be by the lump sum for eash signalized intersection complete. Pe.yment will be made under: C . (1) "Traffic Signal System, complete" lump Sum. The Lump Sum contract price per signalized intersection will be full compensation for all labor, materials, tools and equipment recessary or incidental to the complete installation of each traffic signal system as indicated on the Signalization Plans, Signalization Construction Notes, Signalization Wiring Diagrams and applicable Detail Sheets and shall include furnishing, assemblying and installing of all concrete foundations, Junction boxes, quick disconnect kits, messenger cables, conduits, wiring, induction loop detectors, side mounted terminal compartments, fusee, pedestrian signal poles, Type A services, and all necessary mounting hardware L- for the above; and for as emblying and installing all traffic mast am signal poles, vehicle signal heads, and mounting framework and hardware, backplates, pedestrian signal heads and mounting, framewor'< and hardware, 400 watt soidum vapor luminaires, traffic signal cantrollers and cabinets, street light poles as indicated on the Signalization Plans and in the Signalization Construction Notes, and all necessary mounting hardware; and shall also include excavation, backfill, disposal of excavated material, forming as necessary, grouting, grounding system, removal and replacement of existing asphelt and/or concrete as necessary, and trenching and backfilling. 62 1 CONTROLLER AND CABINET INSTALLATION The City shall provide all traffic signal controllers, cabinets and mounting hardware for the Project; the Contractor shall assemble and install all equipment at the 'locations indicated on the Plans and make all electrical connections. Main Street - South 4th Street 'ntersection The controller cabinet shall be a 35" model and shall be mounted on the vehicle signal mast arm pole specified on the Plans using stainless steel bands as indicated in Standard Plan J-21d. A 3" condulet�Type LR�shall be Fitted from the pole into the controller for the purpose of installing the signal wires. f Burnett Avenue - South 4th Street Intersection The controller cabinet at this location shall be a Type M-1 model as specified in Standard Plan J-21d. � - PEDESTRIAN SIGNAL POLE The Contractor shall provide and install all Type I-B ped.strian signal poles at the locations indicated on the Plans. Poles s:iall conform to specifications contained in Standard Plan J-21a. TRAFFIC SIGNAL MAST ARM POLE At the locations shown on the Plans the Contractor shall ass_mble and install traffic signal mast arm poles all of which shall be provided by the City. SIDE MOUNTED TERKINAL CWTARTtfENT At the location noted on the Plans and in the Signal Construction Notes the Contractor shall provide and install a side mounted terminal compartment and necessary mounting hardware as specified in Standard Plan J-21c. All holes in the sides and top of the compartment normally used for attaching the pedestrian or vehicle signal heads shall be fitted with weathertight pipe plugs. I i 61 A 'M/ ti I INDUCTION LOOP VEHICLE DETECTORS r- The Contractor shall provide all material for and install the induction loop vehicle detectors at the locations and in the configuration indicated on the Plans as specified below. Wiring used in the installation of the loops shall be No. 12 AUG, stranded copper wire with Type XHHW insulation. The lead-in between the roadway loop and the junction box at the aide of the road shall be the same wire as used for the loops. Where shcwn on the Plans, the 2/c lead-in between the roadside junction box and the loop amplifier housed in the controller cabinet shall be Belden Beldfoil, #8718 or equal, with U12 AWG conductors stranded (19X25). The cable shall have polyethylene insulated copper conductors, an aluminum polyester shield, a tined copper drain wire, and a chrome vinyl jacket. At those locations where two No. 12's are to be placed in a conduit run, they shall be twisted tao turns per foot. The detection loops shall be installed as specified in Standard Plan J-21e except as noted below: The wire shall be placed on approximately 1/4 inch of sand or on a 3/8 :ach polyethylene curd at the bottom of the sawcut and covered by a 3/8 inch polyethylene cord. Measurement for "Induction Loop Vehicle Detectors" will be by the linear foot. Payment will be made under: (1) "Induction Loop Vehicle Detectors," per linear foot. The Induction Loop Vehicle Detectors shown on the Illumination Plans will be paid for at the unit contract price per linear foot, which price ' shall be full compensation for all costs of labor, tools, and materials and for complete installation to the junction box in accordance with these Special Provisions, the attached Plans, and the Standard Specifications. Loops indicated on the Signalization Plans and in the Signalization Construction Notes shall be paid for under the lump sum bid price per ' signalized intersection as stated elsewhere herein. t r 60 '► 4 PEDESTVAN PUSHBUTTON AND SIGNS Section 9-29.19 of the Standard Specifications is hereby deleted and the following substituted: Where shown on the Plans, pedestrian pushbuttons of tamperproof con- struction shall be furnished and installed. The pushbutton shall be constructed of a single, round. chrome-plated metal plunger approx- imately 2-1/4 inches in diameter of the direct push type and a single momentary silver contact switch in metal enclosures rated at 125 volts, 10 amperes. -- The assembly shall be made weatherproof by means of a synthetic rubber gasket between the switch and the enclosure, as well as a synthetic rubber gasket between the plunger and the assembly _ shall also be constructed so that it will be impossible to receive any electrical shock under any weather conditions. Furthermore, the assembly shall have no sign fastened directly to it. The sign, as shown on the Detail Sheet shall, however, be supplied in the speci- fied quantities and fastened separately to the shaft as indicated below. The signs and message shall conform to all specifications contained on the Detail Sheet. The signs and pushbuttons shall be mounted on the vehicle signal mast arm poles and the Type I-B pedestrian signal poles using either bolts or stainless steel bands, however only the latter shall be allowed where the pushbutton and sign(s) 1s to be mounted on an aluminum street light pole. Where only one sign is indicated on the Signal Construction Notes it shall be located on the pole shaft such that it is generally parallel to the crosswalk to which it refers and on She same side of the pole as the crosswalk. In this case the pushbutton shall be mounted directly beneath the sign. Where two signs are specified on the Signal Construction Notes one shall be placed on each aide of the pole shaft 1800 apart such that both are generally parallel to the crosswalk to which they refer. In this case the pushbutton shall be mounted on the pole shaft 900 from the signs on the side of the pole towards the traffic. SIGNAL HEADS i Vehicle The Contractor shall provide all nlscellaneous hardware including the 2" pipe nipples for mounting the signal heads on the most arms and shall install ell vehicle signal heads, backplates, and mounting frameworks all of which shall be supplied by the City. All vehicle signal heads to be mounted on the mast arm of the vehicle signal pole shall be equipped with 5" bar,' r backplates. Position of the signal heads ahall be as specified on the Signal ConEcruction Notes and the Plans. Signal heads shall be mounted on the most arm such that the Red iudicatfons lie in the same plane and such that the bottom of the housing of a signal face shall not be less than 16'-6" above the pa•,ement grade at tt.e center of the roadway. , . Pedestrian The Contractor shall provide all miscellaneous mounting hardware and shall install all pedestrian signal heads and mounting frameworks which shall be supplied by the City. c.� Where vehicle signals and/or pedestrian signs)e are to be fastaned to the vehicle signal mast am pole shatt (Type A, B. or K mountings) the Contractor may attach the mounting framework to the shaft using either bolts or stainless steel bands both of sufficient size to securely fasten the hardware and signal head(s). Where these signal heads are to be mounted on the aluminum street light pole shaft, the Contractor shall use only the stainless steel bands. Utilities shall use the trench jointly, and each utility shall supply and install their own conduit, pull boxes and wiring. The Contractors shall coordinate the trench- ing and backfilling with the utilities. Utilities using the trench jointly will be Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company, Puget Power and Light Company, and Teleprompter of Seattle Television Cable Company. All trenches shall be backfilled In accordance with the applicable portions of the Standard Specifications course, clean sand, 3/8" minus gradation, shall be used for the bedding material and shall be used to cover the - conduit 3" above the largest conduit. Tne bedding material shall be consi- i - dered incidental to the unit contract price for trench and backfill. 1 When trenching is being accomplished within the sidewalk area, the backfill can be made with acceptable material from the excavation and shall be considered a necessary part of and incidental to the excavation in accordance with the Standard Specifications. All Joints shall be made with strict compliance to the manufacturers recommendations regarding cement used and environmental conditions. Radial sections for block traffic curb will be in accordance with Standard Plan F-5, pre-cast traffic curb. Painting of the traffic island curb shall be required prior to the installa- tion of any island construction material. Paint and painting shall be In accordance with Section 9-08 of the Standard Specifications, except that yellow paint shall be used on all curbs that delineate the separation , ,• of traffic flows in opposing directions and white paint shall be used on all curbs that separate traffic flows in the same direction. Painting of traffic curb shall be considered incidental to the job and the Contractor shall consider this in his price per linear foot of curb. Plastic Traffic Buttons Where shown on the Plans, or where duetted by the Engineer, the Contractor shall provida and install white or yellow plastic traffic buttons. Island prepar•.tion [hall consist of the followings •w 68 1 s A �aR!• MASTER CONTACTOR AND CABINET The Contractor shall provide and install master contactors and the cabinets, which shall be a Type A, at locations shown on the Plans. Contactors shall conform to applicable provisions of the Standard Specifications, and Detail Sheets J-18c, and J-18d of the Standard Plans. The Type D service shall be as indicated on the Detail Sheet. The Type P cabinet shall be of the dimensions indicated on the Detail Sheet. The cabinet shall be manufactured of high quality cast aluminum alloy. The bottom of the cabinet shall be open to allow maximum entrance space for field wires. A weatherproof plywood panel for the purpose of mounting control components shall be securely fastened to the back wall and shall completely cover same. The front door shall be cast aluminum and hinged and shall be garketed to form a weather tight seal when closed. A police-type lock shall be provided. 1 The unit to be installed at Station 10+05 (Service Point 11) shall contain one branch circuit (1-B) to be used at a future time for lighting on Shattuck Avenue and South 3rd Place. Also circuits 1-C and 1-D will each contain approximately 4 more 400 watt sodium vapor units in the future. • j . LIGHT CONTROL CABINET AND CONTROL COMPONENTS � The Contractor shall provide and inbtall a Type II lighting control cabinet and light control components. The cabinet shall be mounted on the street light pole noted on the Plans using 1;1" or 2" malleable iron pipe and fittings. These items shall be field painted as directed by the Engineer. This equipment shall be used to operate the 120 volt incandescent f,xtures to be installed on Wells Avenue under this contract. The light control cabinet shall be a cast aluminum Ovate . proof "F" type cabinet with the approximate dimensions of 24" high, 14" wide, 12" in depth. The Contractor shall assemble the control components in the cabinet as shown or. the Detail Sheet. The switch control panel, ' clocks, and circuit breakers shall be labeled with laminated plastic with letters which when etched w-.11 show white. Fuses and/or circuit creakers shall be -'zed as shown in electrical diagram. The time pr^grammer shall be a 24 hour, 7 days a week clock with 96 tabs to permit 15-minute switch changes. The tabs shall be easily set by tiltin,+., in or out by hand. When adjacent tabs are set alike the switch shall remain ON or OFF as set. Minimum ON or OFF time shall be 15 minutes; maximum 23 hours, 45 minutes. The time programmer shall include reserve :spring on the event of power failure, which will function -or s minimum of tour hours.
