Unless the zoning restrictions are changed from low-density residential to high-density apartment development these mains are of sufficient size to service the area. 2. Additional water supply should be provided to Division M1 by reloca- ting the existing 4" pressure reducing station ' cm S. 6th and Cedar Ave. to Renton Ave. S. and Cedar Ave. 3. In the event that Cedar Ave. S. is improved the existing water services to residences should be replaced with copper service lines. 4. On S. 7th street, between Renton Ave. S. and Cedar Ave. S., the exist- ing 4" C.I. watermain should be replaced with an 8" C.I. main. The length of t,is portion of the system is approximately 3600. ESTIMATED COSTS: The original estimate and budgeted appropriation for the 8" watermain replacement in Cedar Ave. S. was $56,000.00. The recommended adjusWents listed above invnlve an estimated $17,650.00 e':penditure. Specific cost data is as follows- One new pressure reducing station $ 5000.e0 Relocation of existing 4' pressure reducing station 3000.00 Replacement of 59 3/4" services ac 4100 ea - 5900.00 One 1" service 150.00 6050w00 Installation of approximately 360 l.f. 8" watermain 3600.00 TOTAL $17650.00 Attached herewith is a drawing showing the existing system and the proposed changes. Gonnason, Public Works Director d FROM: Ronald Olsen, Utilities Office Engineer SUBJECT: Renton Hill Improvements - Cedai Ave. S. Watermain Replacement ,dw x+: ' ` •. F i The original plans for the redevelopment of the Renton Hill Ave. improvement " Project included the replacement of the existing 6" cast iron watermain and the 2" galvanized watermain in Cedar Ave. S. from S. 3rd Street to S. 9th Street with a new 6" main. During the initial evaluation, consideration had been given to the fact that the existing mains were old, and also that there was an existing 2" galvanized . water line in a portion of thiE street. : was felt `hat the street improve- ment project as proposed would provide the op;,,ortuni.ty for this waterma..r replacement. After further analysis of the present system and of our future needs we have ff concluded that it is not necessary to replace these existing mains, and that b the service adjustments as detailed below will be adequate. We presently obtain our water for this system from the Seattle water line, through (1) 3" meter and (1) 6" meter. Until the year 1980 the franchise m =t agreement will enable us to continue purchase of water at vC per leo cu. ft. ,w which is obviously a favorable rate. For the purposes of water service the area involved is divided into two "pressure divisions." Division #1 is served by the 3" meter with a supple- ` y mental supply from Division 02 through a 4" Pressure-reducer. Division #2 - •"3 is served by the 6" meter. +' It has now been verified that the existing 2" galvanized main in Division #2 is a separate line, parallel to the 6" main, rather than being an integral rtion of the 5" main. This 246 linear feet of 2" provides high pressure water service to (5) homes on the east side of Cedar Avenue between S. 5th Street and S. 6th Street. RECOMMENDED ADJUSTMENTS: 1. The services off the 2" main should be re-tapped into the existing -" C.I. main. The dividing line between revisions #1 and 02 would then be relocated to the S. Sth Street and Cedar Ave, location, and a pressure reducer would be installed there. This would improve the supply and also eliminate the 2" galvanized line. i J qp w • 1 • • TNERMOWELO STRAP BONO k 1l0'a 1 14 COPPER F.
