April 1, 1977 Cert. No. 'i74-16 Land Planning 6 Management Page 2 Recommendations Observation of the natural soils excavated indicated adequate material for use except for the gravels larger than one (1) inch s in diameter. We Suggest utilization of the natural sand soils without the oversize gravels. Use as bedding will require han sorting of the oversize and removal from the bedding area. This procedure should be followed in all areas where the natural sand soils are encountered. In the areas where more indurated and excessive fine or coarse soils are encountered (such as glacial till soils) we suggest utilization of import bedding soils or excess on.rite a-ceptible natural soils for bedding. we trust the above information will be of assistance in further placement of the bedding. We would suggest if additional infor- mation is required due to questionable bedding soils, that the soils enoineer be contacted for consultation as to acceptance. Thank you for this opportunity to be of service. If you have any questions or if we may be of additional service, feel free to call on ins at any time. { I Sincerely, CASCADE TESTING LABORATORY. INC. No. 774-16 I/ Land Planning 6 Management 22627 152nd and S.E. Kent, Washington 98031 Attention: Mr. David R. Millard Reference: Pipe Bedding Soils Liesure Estates ' Renton, Washington. Centlemen: On March 31, 1977, David L. Nelson, Chief Engineering Geologist with our staff, vis'_ted the above referenced project site at the request of Mr. David Millard to determine suitability of the existing soils for use as pipe bedding. Observations and recom- mendations made regarding this consultation are presented herewith. Excavation for placement of PVC pipe was being performed at the time of observation. The soils encountered at pipe elevation consisted of a grey silty poorly sorted sand with min gravel. This material is considered outwash-type sands or unconsolidated glacial drift. Typically, this material is quite sandy with less than five (5) percent of gravels greater than one (l) inch in dizmeter. Since optimum material used for pipe bedding has no gravels larger than one (1) inch, concern was raised as to suit- ability of the natural soils. 1 naK1 7 ai 4*1 s f M,M1 i u4 q)r raaas mo rlar:aa a1 r PRE CONSTRUCTION MEETING LEISURE ESTATES WATER MAINS Ronald L.
