This incident was captured on my body worn video camera and in-car cameras. This report is a summary of events that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events. On 10/21/2025 at approximately 1832 hours I was dispatched to a blocking accident with unknown injuries in the 300 block of SW 43rd St in the city of Renton, King County, WA. Unit#1 was a red 2019 Nissan Rogue with WA LIC: SH00532 (VIN: JN1 BJ1 CR4KW321242). Unit#1 had a front seat passenger, and a young child in a car seat on the rear passenger side. All occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Unit#2 was a black 1992 Honda CR-X WA LIC: CV6448K (VIN: EG21001746). The driver of Unit#2 was the sole occupant and was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. I arrived on scene where Renton Fire was already on scene checking the occupants of each vehicle out. All occupants were medically cleared. Both vehicles were blocking the right-hand turn lane of SW 43rd St. Driver#1 of Unit#1 stated he was driving west bound on SW 43rd St in the center turn lane. He stated there was traffic backed up in the two lanes to his south. He stated the vehicles there were stopped and allowing him space to turn left into Chevron located at 18015 E Valley Hwy from the two- way center left turn lane. As he proceeded to turn into Chevron, he collided with Unit#2 that was approaching in the right-hand turn lane of SW 43rd St. Driver#2 of Unit#2 stated he was driving east bound on SW 43rd St in the right-hand turn lane (lane 1) so he could turn south on East Valley Hwy. He stated traffic was stopped in lanes 2 and 3 traveling east bound. He then collided with Unit#1 that he stated he did not see turning into the Chevron gas station. Driver#2 said he was traveling between 35-40mph at the time the collision occurred. Gene Meyer towing arrived on scene and towed both vehicles away. Each driver signed paperwork with the tow truck drivers. Pictures of the collision were uploaded to Axon from my department issued cell phone. Driver#1 said they would self-monitor and go to the hospital if pain worsened. Driver#2 said he would self-transport to the hospital to have his chest pain looked at closer. At the conclusion of my investigation, I determined that the proximate cause of the collision is due to Unit 1 not ensuring that traffic was clear and stopped in all lanes before proceeding to make a left hand turn across three lanes of traffic into the gas station. By not ensuring that traffic was clear it caused him to collide with an oncoming vehicle in which he could not see approaching beyond the stopped traffic in the two lanes nearest to him. If driver#1 would have ensured traffic was clear in all lanes, then this accident would not have happened. This concludes my report.
