The reporting party, identified by her WADOL as Pamela K. Crawford (08/07/1970), contacted ValleyCom to report a two-car collision at this location with no reported injuries. The following was recorded on my department issued body camera (BWC). Statements and events have been summarized for clarity, see my full BWC footage for further details. Upon arrival 1 contacted Pamela (driver of Unit#2) and asked her to describe what had occurred. She stated that she was driving her Toyota 4Runner (WA Plate BTP9334) westbound in the 3000 block of Maple Valley Hwy. She then entered the center turn lane to make a left-hand turn into the parking lot of Classics Sports Bar, located at 2431 Maple Valley Hwy. According to Pamela, a Ford Escape (WA Plate AUA6783) driven by Bruce R. Legas (07/11/1950, WADOL) was preparing to head north out of the parking lot of Classics Sports Bar to enter Maple Valley Hwy. She described the Escapes positioning as partially blocking the driveway, saying that she had to turn wide to go around the vehicle. She alleged that Legas exiting the driveway while she was in mid-turn and struck the rear of her 4Runner. I observed moderate damage to the right rear bumper and quarter fender of the 4Runner, to include a broken taillight. Pamela reported no injuries. Her mother, identified as Laurel A. Crawford (06/02/1949, AZDOL) was riding in the front right passenger seat. She reported no injuries. I spoke with Legas (driver of Unit#1) and asked him to describe what had occurred. Legas stated that he was attempting to make a left-hand turn out of the Classic Sports Bar parking lot to head westbound on Maple Valley Hwy. He said that he had observed U-2 in the center turn lane, but he thought that they were going to continue forward and make a turn further down the road. Legas described initiating his turn onto Maple Valley Hwy and said that he had misjudged the distance from U-2, causing the collision. Based on the location and nature of the collision, 1 asked Legas if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages today, he said no. I did not detect an odor of intoxicants coming from his person and did not conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Testing with him. I observed moderate damage to the left side of the Escape. Legas reported no injuries. Based on the statements from both Legas and Pamela, 1 determined the proximate cause of the collision was Legas's failure to yield to Pamela, who had the right-of-way. I used my discretion, and 1 did not issue Legas a notice of infraction during this incident.
