Dear Greg:
I have investigated the extension of the 12 inch water main over
the existinq 60 inch storm drain at the intersection of S.W. 7th
and future Natches Avenue S.W. This is the project which you and
Bob Nord discussed by phone several days ago. I found that the
present utility contractor working on the pro)e�t for Metro has
extended the new 12 inch water main to the point shown in red on
the attached plan. This puts the end of the water main three or
four feet past the edge of the new asphalt being installed for
the extension of S.W. 7th Street (see attached Plan) . I also
found that there is a large drainage swale in the north side of
the existing 60 inch storm drain line. If the water main was
extended over thn top of the existing 60 inch line the end of the
main would stick out into mid-air unless extc,sive filling was
done.
Since tho and of the :2 inch water main has been installed past
the edge of the asphalt and there is the problem of the drainage
swale on the north side of 00 60 inch storm drain pipe, we would
like to recommend that this crossing be made when Natches Avnnu,
S,W, is constructed.

With reference to our conversation regarding Las fin flow capability of
the City of Renton Water System to supply t e proposed Earlington Park
Technical Center, we submit the following information. The available
fire flowrates listed in the letter of December 14, 1981, are correct.
However, it is important to note that the location of two of the
simulated fires were in the center of 8-inch and 12-inch loops. At
this location, the flow and velocity distribution between both sides
of the loop was evenly divided thereby resulting in the lowest velk.cttiss
under the assumed conditions. The flow and velocity distribution for

now capabilities listed are based on the Insurance Services office
criteria, these flowrates are only what is available In the main,

This letter summarizes the fire flow capabilities of the City of Renton's
water system to supply the proposed Earlington Park Technical Center.
Three computer analyses simulating a fire at various locations in the
development were performed for the purpose of determining the fire-flow
capability of the City's system. The analyses were based upon 12-inch main

Services Office (ISO) criteria which is used by the Washington Survey
and Rating burtan the local rating cnaipanv. in accordance with ISO
criteria, the an alysea were simulated with the water system experiencing
A Mmilmel day demand with the single largest supply to sectors 5 9 7,
wall a Out of service (i.e. due to failure maintenance, etc.). A
suearary of the Operational conditions used in the analyses is as follows;
o minimum service pressure of 30 psi in the service area during
normal demands and 20 psi during fire demands.
o wells 1, 2, and 3 are in operation while well R is out of service.
0 Springbrook Springs is supplying the system at 1300 gm.
0 Talbot Hill pump station is operating at 1500 gpm.
