In our most recent discussion, you informed me that the final step in correcting this sit'iation, was to provide City of Renton with written notification to proceed. At this time , we would like to request that the City of Renton proceed with the installation of the required exempt meters at Phase I of Blackriver Corporate Park. As we discussed on site, the existing three meters on the Powell Street side of the property are set uo as deduct meters. Since the water department will not do a deductive computation to reduce your sewer charges, we recommend that the following actions be taken: 1 . Reauest that the City of Renton install an exempt meter next to the domestic meters both at the Powell Street location and at the north end of Building Three. This system is not currently metered by a deduct meter. 2. Disconnect the three deduct meters and cap their point of connection with the domestic meters. 3. Eliminate all but one double check valve on the Powell Street system and re—connect the irrigation system to the new exempt meter. 4. Connect the double check valve to the new exempt meter on the north end of Building Three. 5. Repair any damage to the sod incurred in this process. I will be happy to meet with the City of Renton to discuss this project if necessary. Since we cannot see below the surface to anticipate what we will encounter, we will proceed with this project on a time and materials basis. A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Mrs. Walker, informing me that our water consumption had dropped dramatically on three of the meters listed above . An inspector from your offices went on-site to determine a potential reason for this sharp decrease . Pursuant to his inspection, it was determined that our irrigation meter is connected between the building meter and the building itself. According to Mrs . Walker, this is an incorrect installation. As a result of your investigation, we instructed our Landscape Maintenance sub-contractors to confirm the connection of the building and irrigation meters. Accordiny to their findings, our meters are correctly installed and the irrigation meter is in good working order. Based on these facts , we can only assume that the meter- reader and the b'.iling department are incorrectly calculating our domestic consumption. The irrigation tee is located down-stream from the building meter. Therefore , the domestic consumption should be computed by subtracting the irrigation consumption from the total building consumption. Metro and Sewer charges would be on the domestic consumption only. Our concern is that your meter-reader has been reading the main building meter as all domestic consumption and adding to it the irrigation meter consumption.
