A new thrust block was constructed as shown in the attached detail. According to the contractor this thrust block has a new bearing area of 32 square feet (12.8 feet x 25 feet). The soils engineer reviewed the exist- ing ground prior to the pouring of this Dcw block and corfirmed that the existing ground had -- bearing capacity of 1,5W ppoounds per square foot. This gives a allow- able total of 48,000 pounds of restraint for this thrust block. According to the City of Rentor Standards the required restraint is only 33,930 po-nds. New Deadman Block Located 10 feet East of the 12 inch Tee This thrust block will restrain he force on the 12 inch tee in the east-west direction. The new deadman block will be 9 feet long,4 feet high and 2 feet thick. This give a face area of 36 square feet. The soils engineer has indicated the control backfill can provide 1,000 pounds per square foot of bearing load. This will give a allowa- ble load of 36,000 pounds for the deadman. The required load according to the City of Renton Standards is 1,930 pounds. The deadman detail is attached for your reference. cc: Jim Garrison.
