This letter summarizes the fireflow :apability of the City's System based on the results of a computer analysis simulating a fire at this location. The analysis was based on the existing City of Renton Water System, with the addition of the proposed 8-inch diameter water line through the new Lincoln-Mercury dealership east of Renton Subaru from Southwest 7th Street to a connection point with the existing 8-inch water main on the southeast corner of your property, as shown on the attached figure. Results of this analysis indicate that the available fireflow at the site of the proposed development is approximately 6,120 gallons per minute (gpm) at a residual pressure of 20 pounds per square inch (psi) in the main adjacent to the property. However, the velocity in the proposed 8-inch diameter water main and the. existing 8-inch diameter water main along the south side of your property is in excess of 8 feet per second. Althoagh this flow rate is physically available, there are potentially dangerous and severe consequences associated with allowing that flow rate to occur. Reducing the velocity in the main to 8 feet per second at the location of Hydrant Nos. 1, 2, and 3 would result in a maximum fireflow capacity of 5,150 gpm. In the absence of the 8-inch main loop completion by Lincoln-Mercury, this fireflow capability is reduced substontially and is as stated in our previous analysis for you. The fireflow capability for the analysis was based on the lusurarce Services Office's (ISO) criteria, which is used by the Washington Survey and Rating Bureau, the local rating company. In accordance with ISO criteria, the Water System was simulated experiencing a maximum day demand with the single largest source of supply, Well S. out of service (i.e., due to failure, maintenance, etc.).
