The analyses were performed based on the ity' s existing system with the improvements and modifications to the existing system as shown in the attached figures including the proposed 12" diameter watermain for Metro's Renton Wastewater Treatment Facility from SW 7th Street to Monster Road. Both analyses were performed at a hydrant near Container Corporation of America. Results nf the first analysis indicate that the available fireflow from the hydrant is approximately 3,811 gallons per minute at a pressure residual of 20 psi in the main adjacent to this hydrant. However, the velocity in the main along Monster Road from SW 7th Street is in excess of 8 fps. Reducing the velocity of the water in this pipe section to within ISO criteria of 8 fps results in a derated fireflow capacity at this hydrant of 2,920 gpm. In the second analysis the west connection for the proposed 12" diameter pipeline through Metro's Renton Treatment Facility assumed to be near the base of Metro' s existing reservoir along Monster Ru... Results of this analysis indicate the available fireflow canacity at the hydrant located on Monster Road is approximately 3,7R5 gpm at a pressure residual of 20 psi in the main adjacent to the hydrant. However, the velocity of the water along Monster Road from SW 7th Street is also in excess of 8 fps. Reducing the velocity of water in this main to 8 fps resulting in a fireflow capacity of 2.820 gpm. A summary of the results of these analyses is presented in the attached figures. The fireflow canability for these analyses was based on the Insurance Services Offices (ISO) criteria which is used by the Washington Survey and Rating Bureau, the local rating company. In accordance with ISO criteria, the Water System was simulated experiencing a maximum day demand with the single largest source of supply. Dear Ron: Four computer analyses along Monster Road have been performed to determine the fireflow capability of the City' s water system during construction of the Oakesdale L.I.D. 'he analyses were performed based upon the City's existing system with the improvements and modifications to tie existing system as shown on the attached figure. All four analyses were performed based on the existing 12-inch diameter watermain on Southwest Seventh Street being out of service during construction of the Oakesdale project. The first fireflow analysis was performed at a hydrant near Metro' s existing elevated tank. The analysis was based on the existing water system with no additional improvements. Results of this analysis indicate that the available fireflow from this hydrant is approximately 1 ,432 gallons per minute at a residual pressure of 20 psi in the main adjacent to the hydrant. With the same system conditions, a second fireflow analysis was performed on a hydrant near Container Corporation of America. Results of this analysis indicate an available fireflow capacity of 2,435 gallons per minute at a pressure residual of 20 psi in the main adjacent to this hydrant. However, system pressures along Monster Road in the vicinity of the Metro reservoir are approximately zero. De-rating the fireflow capacity to maintain a minimum of 20 psi in the pipeline in this area results in a reduced Fireflow capacity of approximately 1,430 gallons per minute. The third analysis was performed with the same conditions as Analysis No. 1 except with the addition of the 12-Inch water-main extension along Grady Way. Results of this analysis indicate an available fireflow of approximately 1,645 gallons per minute at a pressure residual of 20 psi in the main adjacent to the hydrant. 1410 Market Street,P.O. Ron Olsen August 25, 1986 Page 2 The conditions for Analysis No. 4 are similar to Analysis No. 2 except to include the 12-inch watermain extension along Grady Way. Results of this analysis indicate an available fireflow capacity of 2,651 gallons per minute at a pressure residual of 20 psi in the main adjacent to the hydrant. However, system pressures along Monster Road in the vicinity of the Metro reservoir are approximately zero. De-rating the fireflow capacity to maintain a residual pressure of 20 psi in this pipeline along Monster Road results in a de-rated fireflow capacity of 1,650 gallons per minute.
