Officer Narrative
Narrative

On 11/22/2025 at approximately 1413 hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury and non-blocking vehicle
collision at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard North and North 3rd Street, within the City Limits of Renton,
County of King,State of Washington.
Upon my arrival, I contacted the involved parties and confirmed no injuries had occurred requiring immediate
medical response at the time of report. There, I collected the involved parties driving documents and their
independent recollection of events leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 stated that she and her two (2)juvenile passengers were traveling westbound on North 3
rd Street approaching the controlled intersection of Sunset Boulevard North in lane 3 of 4.The driver of Unit
#1 told me that she was intending to proceed straight through the intersection to continue westbound on N 3
rd Street. The driver of Unit#1 stated that upon entering the intersection to continue straight, Unit#2, which
was traveling in the adjacent lane, made contact with Unit#1 striking the front passenger side bumper of Unit
#1, causing minor damage.
The driver of Unit#2 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was also traveling westbound on N 3rd
Street approaching the intersection of Sunset Boulevard North but in lane 2 of 4.The driver of Unit#2 stated
she was intending to proceed southbound onto Sunset Blvd N after having turned from N 3rd Street. The
driver of Unit#2 stated that as she proceeded into the intersection to make the turn, Unit#1 came into her
lane striking the rear driver's side bumper of Unit#2 causing minor damage.
I reviewed the traffic design for the intersection, which also revealed a City of Renton traffic camera attached,
at N 3rd Street and Sunset Blvd N. By reviewing the traffic control design, I determined that lanes 3 of 4 and 4
of 4 are required to make a left turn only at the intersection from N 3rd Street whereas lane 2 of 4 can make a
left-turn or proceed straight through the intersection at the driver's discretion.
Unit#1 was occupying lane 3 of 4 and should have made a left-turn only. I was able to review the traffic
camera on recorded video and observed that Unit#1 did not make a left-turn. Unit#1 proceeded straight
through the intersection which was against the left-turn only design for that lane of travel. Unit#2 was in lane
2 of 4 which had an optional left-turn or straight through and used that lane to make a southbound turn onto
Sunset Blvd N as allowed by the traffic control design. The video has been uploaded to this case for reference.

Officer Narrative-Continued
I determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Hirsi) was the proximate cause for the collision as Hirsi was not paying
attention to several posted traffic control signs and improperly used her lane of travel to proceed straight in a
left-turn only lane causing a collision. The driver of Unit#1 failed to obey these traffic control signs causing a
collision in Unit#2's lane of travel. The driver of Unit#1 could have prevented this collision by following the
appropriate traffic control signage.
Unit#1 and Unit#2 were able to be driven away without further incident. An exchange of information was
provided to all involved parties.
