This section of the roadway is 2 lanes north and 2 lanes south with a turn lane for S 27th PI. An area I have worked regularly for speeding. The crash occurred with a wide open straight section with a slight grade. It has sidewalks both sides and a bunch of overhead street lights. I arrived from the south and noticed large fresh marks as if a car had slid through the grass over the sidewalk. This fresh slide mark went through the path of the downed light pole and lead back onto the roadway locating unit 1. Unit 1 was facing southwest mostly in lane 2 partially blocking southbound lane 1 as well. It was unable to be moved and had front end damage but not what you would expect driving into a pole. More of a glancing type damage. I contacted the driver of unit 1 ID'd by his picture WADL. He told me he was going too fast and lost control of his vehicle, maybe hydroplaned. Although it was raining there didnt see to be excessive standing water in this area. Also I responded lights and siren driving above the posted limit and did not experience any stability issues at speed. He told me he was not hurt. Damages required a tow truck. I overheard unit 1 while he was on his phone tell someone he was going way too fast trying to pass another vehicle, lost control and slide into a light pole. I notified the City of the damage to our street light which had exposed wires and the collision had damaged even the foundation where the light pole is bolted. I walked back and located fresh tire marks where unit one was sliding prior to going up and over the sidewalk. The initial tire marks were short, 15'. The tire/slide marks over the sidewalk and thru the dirt was around 300' and then the lane width travel where unit 1 came to rest. The total slide distance was about 330' Unit 1 was basically sideway while off road, based on the tire marks and that his wheels were packed with dirt on the outside of the passenger wheels and inside of the driver wheels. Based on my training and experience as a collision investigator this was not a 40 mph collision which is the posted speed limit. I am surprised the vehicle did not trip and roll in the soft ground. I did not do a full speed study, but a very basic slide to stop and not using a combined speed formula just utilizing a Af at 300 feet revealed a minimum speed of 60mph. Adding into the higher (f) for pavement would increase this minimum mph required to travel this distance sideways. Also when I car is sliding sideway it is considered braking not rolling which increasing its ability to reduce speed. Unit 1 was clearly traveling way too fast for conditions. I cited him Ref RCW 46.61.400 STFFC single vehicle crash into a light pole via complaint. Unit 1 laughed and said he would pay for damages to the pole himself. Also unit 1 was driving a 2025 Polstar 3 Wa license B33LINE, but Sector did not recognize this vehicle so it is listed as an unknown dune buggy. I certify (declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the foregoing is true and correct.
