Door(s) Rear Collision 2025-00080156 Paqe 3 OF 5 Case Number 2025-00080156 Officer Narrative Narrative 25-80156 Unless otherwise noted,the following occurred within the city limits of Renton, county of King, state of Washington. On 11/25/2025, 1 was working as a uniformed police officer for the city of Renton.At approximately 2243 hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury collision at the intersection of N 30th St and NB 1-405 (off-ramp). Portions of my involvement in the incident were captured on my department-issued bodycam.Any statements referred to have been paraphrased and summarized. While enroute, dispatch relayed that one of the involved parties was reporting a collision that occurred on N 30th St. All involved parties were now located at Shell, 1410 N 30th St. When I arrived on scene, I first spoke with the driver of unit 1,who provided the following synopsis of what occurred: He was traveling northbound on 1-405 when he exited the interstate at the N 30th St exit, which he noted was a single lane off ramp. His work site was located on the southbound side of 1-405, so he came to a complete stop at the stop sign controlling the intersection and prepared to make a left turn. He swung wide to the right into the intersection to make his turn. As he did so, unit 2 hastily came up from behind to pass him, and attempted an aggressive right-hand turn.This caused unit 2 to strike the trailer portion of unit 1. Robert (witness) came to the location and corroborated the above story.Their vantage point for the collision was from the opposite (west) end of the N 30th St bridge (at the top of the on/off-ramps for southbound 1-405). 1 next received unit 2's perspective, documented below: He was also traveling northbound on 1-405 when he exited the interstate at the N 30th St exit. He was set up directly behind unit 1.As unit 1 pulled into the intersection to make its left-hand turn, he inched closer to the white line marking the intersection so he could make a right-hand turn onto N 30 th St from the off-ramp. While waiting to proceed, he was struck by unit 1.The collision caused damage to unit 2's front passenger side. Officer: Kauppila,Justin #R12883 Reviewed By: Christiansen,Deanna M Date/Time: 12/03/2025 07:37 Collision 2025-00080156 Paqe 4 OF 5 Case Number 2025-00080156 Officer Narrative-Continued I was provided a phone number for another witness by the driver of unit 2. 1 later called the phone number, listed for a "Kenny Stumbo,"verbally identified as Kenneth A Stumbo (03/25/1970). He provided me with the following recap from his perspective: He was northbound on 1-405 when he took exit 6 onto N 30th St. Unit 1 was straddling the fog line on the right-hand shoulder. He stopped behind unit 2,which was now alongside unit 1. Unit 2 was stopped at the white line parallel with the stop sign. He was stopped directly behind unit 2. Unit 1 attempted to make a left hand turn, but took it too sharp and the trailer of such ultimately struck the front passenger side corner of unit 2, which was still stopped at the intersection. I captured photos of both vehicles' damages. All photos were uploaded to the case file via Axon Capture on my department-issued cell phone. Neither party complained of any injuries. Both vehicles were able to be driven away from the scene by their respective operators. Nothing further.
