On December 3, 2025, at approximately 1634 hours, I was dispatched to a vehicle collision involving a Renton
Police Officer near the 1900 block of Maple Valley Hwy, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, and
State of Washington. Officer Smith via radio requested additional assistance.
Upon my arrival, I confirmed there were no complaints of injury requiring immediate medical response at the
time of report.There, I was able to collect each involved party's information and independent summary of the
events leading up to the collision.
Officer Smith said she was traveling westbound in about the 2000 block of Maple Valley Hwy and approaching
the underpass of 1405 in lane 2 of 3. Officer Smith said she was intending to continue straight towards Bronson
Way N when Unit#1 changed lanes from lane 3 of 3 and into lane 2 of 3 which Officer Smith was occupying.
Officer Smith was unable to avoid the collision and Unit#1 subsequently collided with her marked patrol
vehicle.The patrol vehicle suffered minor damage to the rear bumper due to the collision.
This incident was recorded via Axon vehicle camera which I reviewed. I asked Officer Smith to attach the
recorded video to this case report.
The driver of Unit#1, identified as Jorge Sanchez-Lopez, said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle, and he
was also traveling westbound in about the 2000 block of Maple Valley Hwy.Jorge said he was in lane 3 of 3,
but needed to get into the right lane (lane 2 of 3).Jorge admitted that he never saw the marked patrol vehicle
and therefor proceeded to change lanes. While making the lane change, Unit#1 and the patrol vehicle collided
in lane 2 of 3 causing damage to the front bumper of Unit#1.
Jorge stated it was his fault.
Based on the statements above, I determined that Jorge is the proximate cause for the cause of the collision as
he violated RCW 46.61.140(1)which states that a vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practicable entirely within
a single lane and shall not be moved from such lane until the driver has first ascertained that such movement
can be made with safety.
I cited Jorge via mail for Improper Lane Usage causing a collision.
This incident occurred in the sCity of Renton,King County,Washington State.
