Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) [1002524622]
18-24" Fair
Tree is above the canopy of the rest of the trees, but branches are not particularly long or
weighty. Poor taper, but live crown ratio is around 75%. Lean towards house that has
corrected towards light. Normal foliage, likely low probability of root rot. Branch failure is
possible in 2 years, not likely to fall on the building because the tree is far away.
Inventory Tree
13
Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) [1002524617]
24-30" Fair
Big leaf maple is acting as protection for this tree. Longest branches are on the other
side of tree, lcr is around 80%, much more favorable for force dispersal. Branch failure is
probable within 3 years, low chance of impacting the roof and minor consequences are
expected.
Inventory Tree
14
Western Cottonwood (Populus trichocarpa) [1002490273]
24-30" Fair
Generally weak wooded species, codominant growth that could be reduced on one side
to lessen the probability of a major failure towards house.Inventory Tree
15
Red Alder (Alnus rubra) [1002490271]
12-18" Poor
dead wood within striking distance of pathway that is occasionally used. We can remove
dead wood to reduce risk of injury, but the overall risk is low to begin with.
Inventory Tree

Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) [1002490255]
6-12" Poor

internal decay, monitor
Inventory Tree
17
Western Cottonwood (Populus trichocarpa) [1002490235]
42+" Very Poor
Top is completely dead, with bark peeling off At the top of the tree and reduced sprouting
below: cause of decline is most likely root decay: tree is in a wetland. Lots of dormant
bud tissue towards the base, large structural roots and good root flare. 51.5 inch dbh.
May fall across easement onto the trail but there is a low probability of hitting anybody.
90 feet tall, 30 feet wide. Snagging would effectively mitigate risk, but risk is low to begin
with.

Western Hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) [1002158762]
12-18" Dead
Dead tree, striking distance to house. Decay detected in the stem. Tree will probably fail
somewhere at the stem within 3 years, medium chance of impacting house. Large
distance of fall, consequences would likely be significant. 13.8 inch dbh, recommend
snagging at 20 feet to make a habitat tree.Inventory Tree
26
Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) [1002158759]
24-30" Poor
Tree has a massive inclusion with an old split with response wood, leader most likely to
split is leaning towards house. Failure at this defect is probable within 3 years, high
chance of impacting the building and fence, doing significant damage. Heavily reducing
the stem most likely to split would significantly reduce risk. yearly reassessment is
recommended.

11/2025: overextended first order branch on north side of tree, that has a high branch to
trunk aspect ratio and is situated near a weak union of codominant stems originating in
the same location. Vigorous codominant on south side of tree as well, less of a
probability of major failure. Most branches that could fall on residence fence have been
headed back, probably due to operational concerns of access and/or safety. Visible
decay column underneath bark, with about 2 inches of response wood. Decay column
stretches from the base of the structural roots to about 7 feet of the trunk. Trunk
soundings are dull to the north, east, and north west sides of tree, wood from the
southside is a little bit brighter, sounding route damage on the west side of tree from
construction path, some compaction there as well. Tree is exposed to wind coming from
the prevailing wind direction, no splitting or indications of imminent failure for these
branches. Tree is a weak, wooded species, that has a history throughout all individuals
of frequent branch and/or stem failures, additional pruning is not likely to significantly
reduce the chance of a branch falling on the fence. Risk can be eliminated via removal,
but tree does not constitute a high risk. Estimated height is 95 feet, estimated crown
diameter is 55 feet. 36.3 inch dbh. Existing damage to fence behind 1923 Olympia.
Within three year time frame, probable branch failure, high chance of hitting fence, minor
consequences expected. Moderate risk rating.

Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) [1002134178]
12-18" Poor
Sapwood decay, dead roots and probable decay with little response wood. Fence at the
nearby residence is missing a section, looks like tree suffered a major failure which hit
the fence. Decay is evident at the site of failure.Sapwood decay compromises the
stability of tree, but it appears to have already failed at the top. Bulging root base
indicates further internal decay, failure at the base is possible within 3 years. Tree is
within striking distance of building, high likelihood of hitting building and high likelihood of
striking fence. Most appropriate mitigation would be via wildlife snagging at 15 feet.
Overall risk is low, snagging would eliminate risk.

Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) [1002163524]
30-36" Poor
Poor taper, overextended branches, lcr of about 55, 60%. Resident states that falling
branches have come on to the roof twice in the past two years, and damaged the roof
the last time that they fell a couple months ago. There is some sprouting even though the
foliage appears sparse, which indicates there is still some growth. Fence has been built
around the tree, likely some root damage that may be contributing to poor health in
canopy. 33.2 inch dbh, roughly 110 feet tall, about 40 foot crown diameter. Damage to a
roof qualifies as minor consequences, high likelihood of impact, probable failure of a
branch within 2 years. Overall risk rating is likely moderate (check). Will require an rvmp
to remove.

Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) [1002134196]
36-42" Fair
Some large dead wood on the other side of the fence, tree is sheltered from the wind.
Typical amount of decay for a tree of this species, but there are some branches that
could be reduced in length to reduce the probability of branch failure. If branches fail,
they are more likely to damage the fence. Branch failure is possible within 2 years, with a
high chance of hitting fence and medium chance of hitting the house. Pruning has been
recommended to reduce risk to the building.

Definition of Treatments:
Inventory Tree - Trees that do not have any prescriptions required or trees that are part of the inventory portion of the Urban Forest Management Program. Treatments will be
prescribed in the future once individual needs have been assessed.
