Vigorous codominant on south side of tree as well, less of a probability of major failure. Most branches that could fall on residence fence have been headed back, probably due to operational concerns of access and/or safety. Visible decay column underneath bark, with about 2 inches of response wood. Decay column stretches from the base of the structural roots to about 7 feet of the trunk. Trunk soundings are dull to the north, east, and north west sides of tree, wood from the southside is a little bit brighter, sounding route damage on the west side of tree from construction path, some compaction there as well. Tree is exposed to wind coming from the prevailing wind direction, no splitting or indications of imminent failure for these branches. Tree is a weak, wooded species, that has a history throughout all individuals of frequent branch and/or stem failures, additional pruning is not likely to significantly reduce the chance of a branch falling on the fence. Risk can be eliminated via removal, but tree does not constitute a high risk. Estimated height is 95 feet, estimated crown diameter is 55 feet. 36.3 inch dbh. Existing damage to fence behind 1923 Olympia. Within three year time frame, probable branch failure, high chance of hitting fence, minor consequences expected. Moderate risk rating. Inventory Tree 128 Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) [1002134178]  12-18"  Poor Sapwood decay, dead roots and probable decay with little response wood. Fence at the nearby residence is missing a section, looks like tree suffered a major failure which hit the fence. Decay is evident at the site of failure.Sapwood decay compromises the stability of tree, but it appears to have already failed at the top. Bulging root base indicates further internal decay, failure at the base is possible within 3 years. Tree is within striking distance of building, high likelihood of hitting building and high likelihood of striking fence. Most appropriate mitigation would be via wildlife snagging at 15 feet. Overall risk is low, snagging would eliminate risk. Resident states that falling branches have come on to the roof twice in the past two years, and damaged the roof the last time that they fell a couple months ago. There is some sprouting even though the foliage appears sparse, which indicates there is still some growth. Fence has been built around the tree, likely some root damage that may be contributing to poor health in canopy. 33.2 inch dbh, roughly 110 feet tall, about 40 foot crown diameter. Damage to a roof qualifies as minor consequences, high likelihood of impact, probable failure of a branch within 2 years. Overall risk rating is likely moderate (check). Will require an rvmp to remove. Inventory Tree 130 Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) [1002134196]  36-42"  Fair Some large dead wood on the other side of the fence, tree is sheltered from the wind. Typical amount of decay for a tree of this species, but there are some branches that could be reduced in length to reduce the probability of branch failure. If branches fail, they are more likely to damage the fence. Branch failure is possible within 2 years, with a high chance of hitting fence and medium chance of hitting the house. Pruning has been recommended to reduce risk to the building.
