Dear Ian Harris,
Thank you for the opportunity to reconsider our comment on Iden's Dealer Services Tenant
Improvement* to operate an automotive detailing business located at 102 Lake Ave S in Renton.
Based on the information provided and our understanding of the project and its APE, the Duwamish
Tribe would like to reiterate and request reconsideration of our initial recommendation of
archaeological monitoring with an inadvertent discovery plan, especially if any groundbreaking
activity occurs below fill, topsoil or other impervious surfaces into native soil. We had previously
made the recommendation on 10/9/2025 to the City of Renton. This is an area that the Duwamish
Tribe considers culturally significant and has a High probability to have unknown archaeological
deposits. We note that there are 8 ancestral place names within about a mile of the project location.
The DAHP WISAARD predictive model indicates that an archaeological survey is highly advised with a
very high risk for encountering cultural resources. We also note that the property is in close
proximity to a documented archaeological site.
The current Renton High School expansion, which is adjacent to the project's address, has
undergone archaeological surveying and monitoring and will continue to do so until groundbreaking
activities have been completed. The Tribe stresses the importance of this area as this is the ancestral
land of the Duwamish People where the Black and Cedar Rivers met and where our ancestral village
sat. The Tribe asks that the project perform its due diligence to assess for archaeological potential.
The Duwamish Tribe requests that if any archaeological work or monitoring is performed, we would
like notification. Cultural and archaeological resources are non-renewable and are best discovered
prior to ground disturbance. The Tribe would also like the opportunity to be present if or when an
archaeologist is on site.
Thank you,
Duwamish Tribal Historic Preservation
