Narrative
Unit 2 was traveling in front of Unit 1 in heavy traffic back from a traffic signal in the 1000 blk of northbound
Benson DR S. Traffic was mostly stopped with intermittent periods of"inching forward" before the signal
turned green and traffic flowed for a time. For unknown reasons, Driver 1 failed to recognize that Unit 2 was
stopped, and drove the front end of Unit 1 into the rear end of Unit 2 at very low speed. There was very little
damage which appeared to be only damage to the paint on the rear bumper of Unit 2.
Driver 1 not paying attention to traffic flow and Unit 2 being stopped was the proximate cause of the collision.
Driver 1 did not have identification on him and stated that he did not have a license. Driver 1 was the
registered owner of Unit 1, and his identity was verified via WA ST DOL photo. Driver 1's driving status was
"Not Licensed—Eligible" indicating he did not have a valid operators license. Driver 1 also advised he did not
have insurance for the vehicle.
Driver 1 was cited for operating a motor vehicle without valid operators license but his identity was able to be
verified (NVOL 2). Driver 1 was also cited for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
This incident occurred in the sCity of Renton,King County,Washington State.
