Narrative
At 1134 hrs on 1/11/2026, 1 was dispatched to investigate a prior hit and run collision, in which a City of
Renton light pole was damaged. Reporting party Yacoba Asare-Konadu told me that she had heard the sound
of a collision early this morning (she estimated at around 0300 hrs), and that when she went outside of her
1100 Harrington Ave NE condo after daylight, she saw that a light pole on the north side of Sunset Park had
been sheared off at the base by an apparent collision.Asare-Konadu saw that there were parts of a vehicle
front end scattered around the collision site, along with deep ruts in the grass where a vehicle had apparently
driven on the lawn of the park.Asare-Konadu then saw that there was a black Toyota Tacoma truck(WA
C19981K) parked in the 1100 block of Harrington Ave NE.The truck had extensive front end damage,was
parked partly on and off of the curb, and had mud on the driver's side tires and body consistent with the lawn
damage at the nearby park.
I photographed both the park scene and the truck, uploading all photos into Evidence.com. I called registered
owner Austin Bellikka, and introduced myself. Bellikka spoke freely with me, and showed no signs of
nervousness or deception. Bellikka told me that he had sold the truck at about 1500 hrs 1/10/2026 near his
home in Yacolt, WA. Bellikka said that he had filed an online report of sale at the time; I did not see any DOL
record of this, but it would not be unusual for DOL processing to be delayed. Bellikka said that he had taken a
photo of the ID of the buyer, Gustavo Barrios Melo 04/07/1985.Their communications about the truck had
been on Facebook Messenger, so Bellikka did not have a phone number for Barrios Melo.
I ran Barrios Melo from the DL#that Bellikka had given me; Barrios Melo showed a SE Kent address, and I was
unable to find a phone number associated with him in local or public records.
I found and exported Avigilon footage of the collision; it showed that at around 0134 hrs,the black truck drove
south at a high rate of speed on Sunset Ln NE,with no headlights lit.The truck sped around the corner onto
westbound NE 10th St, left the roadway, and ran head first into the pole.The truck then backed away from the
sheared pole, appearing to get briefly stuck in the mud of the lawn before driving north on Harrington Ave NE.
I had Renton Police Front Counter alert Public Works staff to the damage to the pole and the resulting exposed
wiring. I completed an Origami city incident report as well.
