NARRATIVE
On January 5, 2026, at approximately 1100 hours, I was dispatched to a vehicle collision at the
intersection of SW Grady Way and Longacres Dr SW, within the City Limits of Renton, County of
King, State of Washington.
Upon my arrival, I observed heavy mechanism to the involved vehicles with airbag deployment to one
of the vehicles. The drivers declined any injuries and refused any medical assistance. While on
scene, I collected each of the involved party's driving information and their independent recollection
of the events leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1, identified as Alexis Surprenant, stated that she was the sole occupant of her
vehicle and that prior to the collision she was at the stop sign of Longacres Dr SW and SW Grady
Way. Alexis was stopped facing south and was attempting to make a left turn to travel east on SW
Grady Way. As she yielded for westbound traffic, she observed a large septic truck approaching the
intersection in lane 1 of 2. The septic truck indicated it was making a right turn to go north on
Longacres Dr SW. As the truck completed its right turn, Alexis proceeded south through the
westbound lanes. She stated she could not see Unit#2 which was directly beside the Septic truck, so
after driving forward she was struck by Unit #2 in lane 2 of 2. Unit#1 sustained damage to the left
side of the truck bed.
The driver of Unit#2, identified as Edwin Webb, said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was
traveling westbound on SW Grady Way and approaching the uncontrolled intersection of Longacres
Ave SW in lane 2 of 2. Edwin said as he continued going straight through the intersection, Unit#1
turn in front of his vehicle. Edwin stated he was unable to avoid the collision, and both vehicles
collided causing significant damage to the front of Unit#2.
Based on the above statements, I determined that Alexis is the proximate cause for the collision due
to not granting the right of way during a left turn causing a collision. Alexis violated RCW 46.61.185(1)
by being the driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection and not yielding the
right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or
so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard. Alexis did not grant the right of way to Unit#2
traveling in the roadway which had the right of way and was already underway.
Both involved vehicles had to be towed due to extensive damage cause. An exchange of information
was provided to all involved parties.
