Within the city limits of Renton/King/Wa I responded to a single vehicle into a power pole near the
3200 block if Talbot Rd S. Renton Fire was already on scene when 1 arrived.
I contacted the driver of unit 1 ID'd by her picture WADL. She provided no details regarding the crash
other than the roadways were slippery. (the road surface was completely dry) She was checked by
Renton Fire and released on scene with no complaint of injury.
A Witness/listed provided the following in summary. Wit was northbound on Talbot Rd S while unit 1
was southbound. Wit said he could see that unit 1 had her head turned towards the passenger side of
the car as she started to drift towards the double yellow center dividing line. Wit said it appeared unit
1 was not reaching with her right arm towards the driver side and leaned over as she drove left of
center. Wit said she had to swerve to avoid being hit by unit 1. Wit said she saw unit 1 leave the
roadway and go into some landscape coming to rest against a power pole.
It was my observations based on my training, experience and location of unit 1 that she was
southbound, crossed over a double yellow, left clear and distinct tire marks matching her car with no
braking indicators, went over a large ditch, into some landscape and came to rest wedged between
an active/hot electrical power pole and support-tension wires. Some of those tention wires were
broken, the power pole was leaning, other power lines appeared to be sagging and exposed wires
were aching at the front passenger fender/door area of her car.
Fire had requested PSE respond and I requested they respond with priority. Northbound lanes were
closed and a tow truck arrived on scene. Bankers Towing stood by waiting for PSE. PSE secured the
power for bankers. Both lanes were closed for Bankers to complete their task with removing the
vehicle and securing it for towing. PSE advised power would be disrupted to multiple locations while
they replaced the pole, lines and other products damaged from unit 1 negligent driving.
I cited unit 1 Ref RCW 46.61.525 Negligent Driving Second Degree via complaint. (1)(a) A person is
guilty of negligent driving in the second degree if, under circumstances not constituting negligent
driving in the first degree, he or she operates a motor vehicle in a manner that is both negligent and
endangers or is likely to endanger any person or property.
